Is it time to call/email?

Well, by my math, today makes 100 days since the application was mailed and 90 since the money order was cashed. I have been very patient (I think anyways). I emailed twice when I had not received my PIN yet, which I finally received March 14. But, I have not inquired since then. I understand they are running behind, but I've been keeping my eye on this 90 day mark (since money accepted) and think it is time to get in touch with someone.
What do you folks think? And, what is the best way, email or phone call?
Thanks,
tryan

Send an e-mail, just be really nice. Simone will yell at you in her return e-mail.

Time to call. Be nice, but persistent.

Call on Monday (Simone's day off) so you can talk to the other guy. Be persistent. He'll be helpful as he can.

Well, I sent an email to the DPS as I was approaching my 60th day. I commended them on the job they were doing, being totally humble with respect, complementing them to the point of being mushy. The next day I got a simple 2 line email saying that I was still being processed, thanks for my patience. The people at that office are already working at speeds that would drop Darth Vaders jaw. Sometimes being extremely appreciative and complementary goes a looong way (even if you on the inside are questioning their genetic make-up). You get what you give. It's called Karma. Remember that when you send in your email.

I'm not so sure about that. I agree with being cordial and as respectful as possible in your communication, but as we all know from any type of bureaucracy, expediency is definitely not their main concern. After all, maintaining a "healthy" backlog provides job security.

Yes, they have a problem, they have stated so, and are way behind the curve on processing. They need more staff, and like any corporation, apparently are having trouble getting it funded from above.
However, the more calls or emails they have to field does take time away from processing. Last year between September 1, 2006, and August 31, 2007 they processed right at 100,000 applications. That averages to about 365 applications a business day they approve/deny. Factor in they have to handle these application multiple times even with no errors, even more if they have to send back for those that do have errors, etc. The volume is pretty huge.
Now, if you multiply the number of applicants pending times an average of 2 calls or emails from each applicant during a 60 day window, that works out to be about 90 calls/emails they have to field AN HOUR! That for sure takes up at least 2-3 folks time.
I understand it is torture waiting, I felt the same while waiting on mine, but the best you can do is wait and if you haven't heard anything within the expected times, then contact them. Before that, let them focus on getting the applications completed.

This is my 3rd renawal, so its my forth waiting game -but it seems slower this time for sure. However, since I'm reading here that others are way past my timeline already -I won't be pestering them about it for another month. I'm only now getting close to that famed 60 days since my status went to "Processing Application".
My only real concern now is if they stumble around with this till July then my current license will be expired and I won't be legal to carry

There is no such thing as Karma. If you are nice and it gets done quickly, then it's Karma, if you are real nice and it takes 5 months, then they are just real busy. I guess it'll get done when it gets done, I've got a nice cushion.
BTW, dogs and cats don't go to Heaven either.

This is exactly why I will not be calling or sending an email. We'd all probably get our card faster if the person who answers the phone/email could instead be working on our apps.

This might be why 56 days and NO PIN. Thinks positive despite the obvious. You get more flies with honey than vinegar. I believed that if it is to happen, it will in it's own time. For me it was 24 days to get my PIN, and 70 days for my status to change to "application complete - License approved or certificate active". I personally think people just need to chill out, let the process be. As inefficient as it is, the stats the DPS CHL office produces is still impressive with what they have. Over 100,000 applications last year. 100K new CHL's a year. Man, we epitomize the Second Amendment. God Bless
