I used to have a CHL for years and let it expire which resulted in me having to go through the whole process all over again. Maybe that's the reason I got mine so fast. The timeline I posted is the actual timeline, and like I stated in my post, email them at that link on the website and ask them to please expedite your license. They will do that, the lady I talked to the only time I called stated that the one reason they are taking so long is that the applications get sent off to the background check personnel in large groups, therefore when that group is completed then it moves on to the next step in the process. In other words, if your application completed the background check, you have to wait until the others are approved or denied to move forward in the process. If you email them and communicate with them, they will pull your application from that group and do it individually which will result in yours being finished quicker. If you don't communicate with them, they will just put yours aside and must finalize the others in the same stack as yours which from what I'm seeing on here and reading on the others posts seems to be the problem. Communication is key.

I don't think the words "communication" and "expedite" are in DPS' vocabulary.

Here is my timeline.

1/5/16. Applied for LTC
1/17/16 Fingerprints submitted
1/18/16. LTC Class
1/21/16. Confirmation email from RDS

Called serval times to check status of application, was told 4 different stories, tired of calling and getting the run around so new timeline below.

3/13/16. Email my state representative
3/14/16. Received call from a supervisor at DPS telling me she is personally processing my application and it will be sent to print before Thursday (3/17/16)

3/15/16. Received an email from my representative's Chief of Staff asking if RDS reached out to me. Told her what was discussed and thanked her office for the help, her reply was glad we could help.

If you are tired of getting the run around from DPS email your state representative, I read somewhere on this forum that DPS does not like having state representatives poking their noses in DPS' business. It worked for me.

Good luck.

Good tip. Thanks for sharing. I emailed my state reps and also the office of Gov. Greg Abbott yesterday. My state rep's office called me back a few hours later and Greg Abbott's office emailed me to say they were following up with DPS management on my behalf. Hopefully I can get a reaction from them by going over their heads. DPS service sucks. :smash:

I have emailed them 3 times over the last 2 month and have never got any reply.

Got confirmation email on the 4th of January. Uploaded through their website.
Was told today by Daniel(?) that they have no record of that on their system and that even if they do find my files, it will be 2-3 months before I see my plastic.

Good job, DPS.

UPDATE: They found my documents. It's still going to take 2-3 months.

I wrote my State Rep and Governor Abbott's office this morning. Here is what I wrote:

Dear Mr State Rep

As the representative I endorsed and elected, I feel you are my only contact between myself and the Texas bureaucracy. I applied for CHL, now LTC, on 1/6/2016. It has been 70 days today since my application was processed (and 61 days since my fingerprints were received). I have been informed of several random deadline dates that DPS use, on the three occasions I have called for status updates. Yesterday, I was told they are very busy, so I should just wait 12 weeks from 1/15/16 before calling again.

Honestly, if the statute allows 60 days for processing before requiring notification for further extended processing, and $140 fee From each applicant to perform such duties, shouldn't that mean both parties be required to uphold the language in the statute? At the very least, a status report of my application would be nice, since many applicants on a CHL forum who have applied 3-6 weeks after me have already received their licenses. Other applicants have reportedly been told applications are not processed in an orderly fashion.

It would be very much appreciated if you might look into this matter, not only on my behalf, but those who have been waiting beyond the statutory timelines.

Best Regards,

They are happy to take our money but are they to do their job? Remains to be seen.

I just emailed my state rep. His office isn't too far from where I live and if I don't hear back via email I am going to go over there.

Just heard back from my State Rep office by telephone. They said they can definitely help me out with this matter and are reaching out to DPS. Took my info. Said don't be surprised if I hear back from DPS directly either. :anamatedbanana

Just hit the SEND button on an email to my Rep. It is over 60 days and no update and impossible to get a straight answer. I guess now I'll see how good our Rep is at helping his constituents.
