Well folks, I thought I would join the July crowd. I have spoken to the DPS twice since submission, and both times they were quite polite. Once was to make sure they got my app, since I didn't think to send it in registered/return receipt requested. They received it just fine. The next time was to get my PIN, which was emailed to me within two days. The original app was online with no problems. They said (without my asking) that my pictures looked good :shock: and it looked it was moving right on through the system :shock: . We'll see how that goes......especially after all the stories I've read in these forums. I certainly don't anticipate beating the 60 days. I've only had one address in Tarrant County for 5 years, and worked only in Tarrant and Dallas Counties.

Patience has worked in my favor many times in the past. There are some things that just need to be endured. Hopefully this won't get too far out of hand, as I have seen happen to others. Given my current unemployed status, I would be more than happy to go to work for DPS screening apps. I guess working my own would be a conflict of interest, so I would just keep putting mine on top of the stack of whoever had it at the moment while they weren't looking...... :thumbs2:

Arrrgggghhhh! Don't get me started lw! I live in north Arlington, and Collins & I-30 is where we go eat several times a week. It was a nightmare trying to maneuver around when the Rangers play, but couple that with the Cowboys? Forgeddit! I can see the "mothership" from Cooper & 30. And coming in from Ft.Worth? You can see it from miles out.I'm sure you can see it too when traveling down Industrial.

The road construction has been a nightmare. Personally, I think it's going to be the great Arlington boondoggle. Especially if last nights game is any indication. :lol:

Looks like the 1st 30 days have passed since THE MAILING DATE and without any hits, runs, or errors for the home team! I sure hope the 2nd 30 days pass as uneventual. I wish I knew which of the gun gods I should make an offering? Thought about the Glock god ... passed. Then the S&W god and also passed. Finally settled on making an offer to the Sig Sauer goddess! Figured She would keep an eye out for me. So far, so good.

This wait is going to feel a lot longer than I had originally hoped. Today my lil darling bride decided it would be a good idea for me to QUIT SMOKING. :roll: I have been smoking for 30 years. I can handle a lot of trauma in my life. Really, I can. I really need to quit smoking, too. I really do. Quitting smoking while waiting for my little plastic card is somewhat stressful...........I will survive. I need to quit. Really I do.......

She says it costs too much money.

Now I can afford more ammo and guns. :woohoo

Perhaps every cloud does have a silver lining. We'll see how this little thunderboomer works out........ :grumble

i'm kind of in the same boat . :oops:

i often ponder how much stuff i could have that wouldn't just go up in smoke
had i spent the money on other things .

After spending a day with me while I haven't smoked, my darling bride has decided that it is a better thing for me just to cut down smoking at my own pace. Apparently my usually jovial demeanor is a little altered after 24 hours without nicotine. I promised to cut down. I intend to do it gradually to minimize the pain. I owe her that for her gradually increasing support of firearms, gradual lessoning of Obama support, and her support of my getting my CHL.

Oh yeah, I forgot the other reason. Quitting is good for me. :grumble

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. That's what I told the wife.

My current goal is to be the first "July Waiting List" forum member to get plastic in hand. Perhaps it will happen before the new millenia. As much as I can't stand WallyMart, I'll have to make a special trip there for the graduation ceremony.

I remember many years ago, when Walmart was young, I heard a story about old Sam Walton. Some lady up in the midwest sent him a letter and some samples of hair bows or something she was making at home. A factory had just closed down in town, and things were rough for a lot of folks. Old Sam bought her samples and she went into business, hiring a bunch of folks to make these things for her to sell to Walmart. Did a world of good for that little town. Now everything is outsourced to China. Cheaper to pay the freight than the labor. My guess is that the number of items sold at Wally World that are made here in the U.S. of A is in the single digits, percentage wise. Sam died and the kids sold it all down the river, as far as I'm concerned.....just 2 more of my cents, for what they're worth. Probably two hours labor in China......... :banghead:

Hello all; adding myself to the waiting masses...so far so good. No letters/emails/calls from DPS, so am hoping they will just keep moving my application until it reaches the top of the stack (hopefully before Christmas). In the meantime I try to limit myself to checking the DPS site no more than twice a day...
