Katy, Texas
Mailed in packet 3/25/08 after paying online
Received 3/03
5/25 sent letter saying they need copies of disposition of two misdemeanor cases I put on application.
Wasn't arrested for either one. One was 16 years ago and the other was a traffic ticket. I figured honesty is the best policy so I listed them on application. Took me all day to get the records from downtown and the JP! Sent and faxed paperwork in 6/01, still says processing application. It's been 92 days!!!
I think my Bersa cc380 is beginning to show some rust spots (haha)!

Re: Let's hear some updates!
Does anyone here think it is possible they are sorting the applications by region or city? This might explain why it is taking some of us 120 days while others are getting plastic in 60. Being in the DFW area, I could believe they are getting more applications from here than they are from Austin or even a smaller area.
I sent an email yesterday telling them I was concerned after witnessing folks getting plastic before me that have submitted paperwork after me. i asked if they are processing apps. in the order they are received. Still no response from them. Maybe it is a hard question to answer. Seems easy enough...either yes or no would work.

Who got their plastic before you? It seems they are taking at least 90 days for new applicants and 120 days for renewals.03Lightningrocks wrote:Does anyone here think it is possible they are sorting the applications by region or city? The one who posted above this post, for instance. Couple others who have posted in the past few days. Like I said earlier...I'm not even entered in the system yet.mondo2000 wrote:Who got their plastic before you? Re: Let's hear some updates!
That's not the way it works.lws380 wrote:I keep hearing a 40% increase in applications. Ok, I'm not a math major but lets assume before the 40% increase excuse they took the entire 60 days to process. A 40% increase in time is then 84 days. Why then does it take 120 days or longer?
Since we have been told about the 40% increase, let's look at some numbers.
For example, let's assume they previously received 100 applications per week and were just barely able to turn around the average application in 60 days.
With a 40% increase, they would now be receiving 140 applications per week, so 60 days later they'd have completed the original 100, but would still have 40 in process. The following week, they'd finish those 40, but only 60 of the next week's input, so would have 80 still in process.
If you follow the progression, in five weeks you'd have 200 "overdue" applications still in work.
It could only get worse.
Now let's assume they are allowed to hire temps to augment their workforce by 40% (not likely, but just suppose). You'd think that would start cutting into the backlog, wouldn't you?
But, no. First, you have to train the temps. Even if that took only a week, that's one more week that the backlog would grow by another 40 applications, because a fully qualified worker would probably be monitoring the newbie for a while. Then the 40% augmentation of the workforce would just keep pace with the increased rate of application, so you're now just breaking even, without whittling away at the backlog.
And that's assuming a steady even flow of new applications. If some external factor leads to a sudden increase, that whole bunch would gum the works up even worse.
That's not taking into account the parts of the process that are not under the control of the CHL section in Austin. You have the FBI background check AND the local check. If a particular county/city has only one trooper doing all the local checks, his/her workload just increased significantly, on top of the regular patrol/enforcement responsibilities.

Re: Let's hear some updates!
So how do you explain the people getting their licenses in 60 days who submitted their applications only 60 days ago when there are applicants who have waited 90 days plus?

Re: Let's hear some updates!
Some lucky individuals had their FBI check and/or local trooper check returned quicker than others (probably).The_Vigilante wrote:So how do you explain the people getting their licenses in 60 days who submitted their applications only 60 days ago when there are applicants who have waited 90 days plus?
Any time you have human beings involved in a process, there's a severe limit as to the applicability of mathematical/statistical analysis.
