August 2011 Applications

Re: August 2011 Applications
I agree that misery loves company. Good to get on here and realize that I'm not the only one obsessed with CHL. Just mailed my packet on Monday (overnight, of course), and know not to expect an update for at least 8-10 days. But that doesn't stop me from checking the status a couple of time a day here on day 4! Darn you, Labor Day weekend, for making my wait one day longer!
I carry around the house all day and am annoyed that I keep having to disarm and secure my firearm whenever I leave the house to do stuff.

Re: August 2011 Applications
Bluejay,
Welcome! Yes, we are a bunch of like-minded folk around here. We have all been through the miserable wait, whether it be two weeks, or six months. I think we are a pretty friendly bunch. There is a treasure trove of wisdom and knowledge here, just waiting for someone to mine it, or to add to it. We do get in the occassional argument, but it should be remembered that this is a "forum" where ideas are meant to be exchanged. Whether or not a discussion becomes completely unreasonable is usually the decision of one person who does not want to be civil...I try to not be that person!
Have fun, read deeply, practice often.

Re: August 2011 Applications
I have a question...why can I go to a gunshow and get background check in a matter of minutes and it takes so long going through CHL channels. I don't mean to be anxious (BUT I AM). I am sure there are other things involved, but it just makes me wonder.
Oh...gotta check status

Welcome Bluejay.
You can take the gun with you in your vehicle, you can even have it on a boat now. You just can't have it on your person until you get your plastic card back from DPS.

Welcome Larrs
That's a good question. I assume it is a more in depth check for the CHL but I do not know that for a fact.

No mail Monday... It's a holiday.Cool Arrow wrote:Darnit, I got nothing today. I will check tomorrow then monday morning.
I got no mail yesterday, at all. Neither did my next door neighbors. I wonder if our mail carrier took the day off... Hopefully, it'll be there today.

Passing the time by purchasing my glock 26 and going to the range today to get used to it. I love 9mm by the way. Out of curiosity what will be your guys' carry pistols? Also is anyone still on the fence between a few pistols?

I think Cool Arrow was referring to status update. We are still at the back ground finger print review stage. No change for me either. I hope you get it today or tomorrow ipscshooter since Monday is a holiday.ipscshooter wrote:No mail Monday... It's a holiday.Cool Arrow wrote:Darnit, I got nothing today. Re: August 2011 Applications
I guess you could count me as 'on the fence.' I bought an XDm Compact 3.8 9mm this weekend and I've been carrying it as much as I can since I got my CHL a couple days ago. I had buyer's remorse (2nd guessing myself) at first because I'm having trouble getting used to the thinner grip in my large hands, but I'm starting to warm up to my purchase. Something keeps pulling me back to a G23 for EDC.Z8442 wrote:Passing the time by purchasing my glock 26 and going to the range today to get used to it. I love 9mm by the way. chlag01 did you put the biggest hand grip back strap on the gun? The Trigger will just take some getting use to.

Re: August 2011 Applications
I bought the G27 because I already had a G22 and it just made sense for me to keep the same .40 cal for cost purposes. I would like to get a .45 though like a Kimber CDP or Ultra. I have even thought about getting a Glock in .357. Read somewhere that the .357 is the gold standard for handgun cartridges based on its performance characteristics.Z8442 wrote:Passing the time by purchasing my glock 26 and going to the range today to get used to it. Re: August 2011 Applications
It came with the medium back strap installed. I installed the larger back strap a couple nights ago (the pin is a pain), and the grip is a little better, but there still isn't much grip left between my fingertips and palm to get my other hand onto the grip. The more I handle it the more I get used to it though. I think it will just take a little more time and experience with it.

Re: August 2011 Applications
Well, wait is over. Here is the total time frame I experienced.
Aug 3rd – Online License
Aug 6th – Class
Aug 8th – L1 prints
Aug 12th – packet mailed
Aug 26th – manufacturing
Aug 27th – mailed
Aug 31st – plastic in hand
All done in one month. Back 15 years ago when I moved from Texas it was taking between 60 & 90 days. Much improved.
FWIW, my wife's arrived Sept 1st. Both showed mailed on the web the same day so the difference was the USPS. Her's came just in time as she was leaving that day to help our daughter at a catering thing she is working on this weekend.
