What if I move and I'm still waiting?

Basically, I sent my application in the other week but in the past few days I've made the decision to leave my relationship and move out (long time coming, just never had the guts). I'd like to be out by April. They haven't reported my application as being received so I'm thinking that it would come after this time, unless there is a way to call and have them change it to my parent's address until I figure out my living situation.

Any advice?

I'm sure I could just come back and pick it up when it's ready, but that could be emotionally hard for both of us.

Mail Forwarding works to make sure it (and anything else) shows up at your new location.

Once you have it process a change of address. That to me would be the easiest way.

Like KQA says, let mail forwarding catch it up to you and then execute and address change. I'd guess that trying to put something else in play during the process would not be a good idea, if the DPS even has a procedure for dealing with that sort of request.

I'm pretty sure that USPS doesn't forward official government mail. I know for a fact that they do not forward vehicle registration stickers, so I think it's a fair assumption that they will not forward something from DPS. I'd make the call before relying on forwarding.

It won't forward.I had the same thing happen to me.You'll have to go online and pay the change of address fee and have a new card manufactured.Its a shame they don't have something in place to allow you to change it but maybe the number is so miniscule they don't think its worth the effort.

I have moved as well since applying for my chl..two weeks ago I emailed dps requesting the address be changed and their website was still showing my old address so I phoned them today and spoke to theresa..she said an address change had to be submitted in writing and asked me when I sent the email..she then put me on hold and searched for my email..when she found it she said she had forwarded it to another department for data entry..the form to email dps from their website has a change address option..hope this helps

Wrong. This is a rumor that is not true. They don't forward a lot of Government mail because they often have checks in them. The envelopes say "Do Not Forward" to them (to prevent fraud). THAT'S why they don't get forwarded. Nothing to do with being Government mail. I get Government mail forwarded to me all the time all over the US.

If the CHL envelope does not say "Do Not Forward", it will forward.


If you don't want to lose your mail, have USPS "hold" your mail, then put in a "Change of address" with USPS. That way they will hold all your mail as your change of address starts to take effect. Anything that can't be forwarded (your welfare check, junk mail) will be held and you can go pick it up.
