I got PLASTIC!

I got my plastic today! :thewave

I'll be going on my wally walk later today. My CHL actually got here faster than my holster so I'm stuck using the Sig one that came with it but thankfully it's going to get really cold here tomorrow so it will be just fine under a coat. This just made my entire week. Thanks DPS for getting it done so fast! :txflag:

Congrats Coffeenut. Thanks for the weather update. Didn't know we were supposed to get cold tomorrow. I'll see if I can spot you out and about in San Antonio. I'll know it's you because of the big grin on your face. :biggrinjester:

I wouldn't have known unless a friend in Austin gave me a heads up. It's going to get quite chilly! Look for the giant grin on my face accompanied by my coffee which now permanently resides in my left hand rather than my right. :fire

I'm jealous, my packet was received at the same time as yours, but I haven't gotten even an update past the background under review status yet. =\

Hang in there! Many people have said it and I can contest to it, AVOID this forum while you wait! Many people received their plastic weeks before me and they mailed after me. I just checked the website daily around 8 am and when it finally said manufacturing I came back to the forum. Hope this helps.

They're like all government offices slow and sporadic but you'll get it. Hang in there!

I thought I'd update on how my wally-walk went.

My first stop was actually Walmart and I went around 11pm to avoid most of the herds that roam their heavily during the day (I typically do this as I hate the Walmart environment) and no one to my knowledge was aware that I was packing. I actually was surprised that I wasn't constantly pulling my shirt down out of fear but I guess my around the house carrying helped me out.

The next day I went to HEB for actual items and spent a fair amount of time there and again I didn't get any odd glances. It was pretty neat to know that I was packing and no one could tell. From HEB I went to Navy Federal where they had a gun buster sign up but I blew right past it and took a picture of it on the way out just for kicks. The bank had to be the most fun simply because its a bank and you know you're legally bringing a gun in. I should note that I was wearing just a light Columbia jacket over my Sig which was in an OWB holster and from what I could tell I wasn't printing at all unless I bent over. From the bank I went to the library and picked up a few books I had reserved and again no one noticed or cared and I honestly was feeling really good about my decision to get my CHL at this time. It felt right to carry and it was nice to be a little more aware of my surroundings than I was previously.

I have carried everyday since I've gotten my CHL and don't plan to change that.

Here is Navy Federals gun buster sign if anyone was interested:

I know if I go to Shell Federal, I can carry, but Shell (by name) is a petroleum company.

I am curious about "Navy Federal"
Is it run by the Navy, or Federal Government, or is it private, like Shell Federal is?

If it is run private, no issues, but if it is Navy or Government, I do not believe you can legally carry there (as if it were a post office, or armed services recruiting center or other Fed building)

You have probably already researched this prior to carrying, but you have my curiousity peaked on this.

Sounds like your wally-walk went very well!

Yes my walk went quite well! Thank you.

Navy Federal is sponsored by the Department of Defense but its privately run just like any other credit union and unless it is on a military base it isn't federal property. I was originally worried about it being a Fed space but it all panned out. The Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navy_Federal_Credit_Union page gives a bit more information on them but in the end its just a credit union that caters solely to military members and their families so unless they have a 30.06 sign out front feel free to walk right in. :txflag:
