CHL Status *New Member*

Post by silentblades »

So I took the class Saturday, fingerprinted Monday and snail mailed the packet into DPS. I had previously filled out the App. online. When should I expect an update to my current waiting for paper work... I made copies of everything in case something got lost in the mail. I hope I did not freak them out by putting 4 20 cent stamps on the darn thing but the package seemed kinda heavy lol. Ah well thanks in advance for any info that you share.

...welcome...it took my renewal about 6 days to show on computer...I, too, mailed in my packet...welcome to the forum...you'll be runnin' your hand around inside your mailbox to make sure you didn't miss anything before this is through...might as well vacuum it out and make sure there're no snags to cut your fingers...the wait is bearable...barely...

For new CHL's, the average seems to be about 2 weeks before any updates show on the website.

Thanks for the quick replies! Mainly just want to make sure my packet gets there. My best bet once its there is to forget about it and let it come as a surprise.

Welcome to the forum.

I have been trying to tell new people this for a while now. If you keep checking it will drive you CRAZY and usually you will have the plastic in hand before it changes to mailed anyway

Use the time wisely. Figure out what and how you want to carry by carrying around the house. That way when it does come, you will be ready to go and feel more comfortable.

Be safe and may you never have to use it.

Yep, that's what you should do. Of course, that's what I told myself also but I couldn't keep myself from checking the website a couple times a day while waiting!! It took two weeks from the time they received my paperwork until the status on the website was updated.

As Im now only waiting for the state to make my liscence it seems as the timeline is as follows:
2 weeks for status update once ALL info has been sent
2 weeks for background check to be completed
Roughly 5 weeks for everything to be done!

I have been waiting for about a month or so. If i get it within 2 months I will be happy. Of course I have been impatient about it but I have some much else going on that keeps my mind off it.

Use the time like others have suggested. Wear it around the house get used to carrying. I work from home so i wear mine a lot. So much so that I already miss it it when its not on my person. I wake up get dressed and put on my carry gun. If i do go some where I weae it till I arrive there then stow it in my truck. So as I get done back on it goes.

So Dps has got my prints and online app. Could not tell me if they recieved my packet or not. This is normal correct? Mailed it in last monday. I know... I did not take my own advice of forgetting about it. My main concern is not knowing if it was lost or not. Ah well glad I made copies.

That's where certified mail option comes into play. Had you sent it certified, you would know it was there. Now it will be roughly two weeks possibly before you know. Just keep checking the web site every few days and it will eventually show up as received and being processed.

So I am on my third week with no update. I called the have my fingerprints but said nothing about rest of packet. Is this the norm? Still says waiting on required docs. Guess Ill give it another week and see about getting another packet to mail. This time certified.

it's normal.

Mine took about 3 weeks to update also, and I live in Austin (i.e. 1 day travel time for the snail mail.)

Just be patient, it'll update. Then you'll get to watch the "background check" box for a while.
