Another Soon To Be

Turned in my completed packet today in person to DPS, Building I. Very nice lady in the lobby made sure everything was in order. I had actually gone to seal the packet when she says "Wait, I wnat to make sure everything is correct." She looked everything over, stamped a few of the documents and even stapled my extra passport photo. So, the wait begins.

Based on my experience, if you're in the Austin area and can deliver in person it seems like a good idea. Off to practice......

Keep us posted on your progress. I'm curious if your method will actually be faster, I live between Austin & San Antonio. I won't be up for Renewal for a few years though.

Good Luck,

Well, exactly 49 days after I turned in the completed packet in person, status has changed from "Packet Mailed to Applicant" to "Processing Application". 60 days doesn't appear likely but hopefully there will be another change to the status very soon.

Today was day 60 so I thought I would check in by phone to see what was up. I was transferred to a technician who said everything was in order, and that they were waiting on background investigations from my previous county of residence. However, she did say it could be up to 2 more additional weeks. I have a clean past so hopefully not that long, but I guess I could go out to 74 days. So close I can smell the plastic and the nachos at Walmart.

Have a good weekend CHL'ers

Day 73 and I'm getting closer! Just heard from DPS that the Hays county review is in. Now, if only Travis county would respond I'll be good to go. However, the nice DPS lady also mentioned that there's really no time table for expecting a return. It could be today or it could be 2 more weeks. She said the county has limited resources for processing the background investigations. I've been reading quite a bit from this board and noticed the folks in central texas have some of the longest waits.

One piece of great news is that I happened to catch a Milt Sparks VMII in stock at Lightning Arms for my USPC9! All I can say is wow, it feels really comfortable when I'm at home.

Thanks for listening....

Hang in there, Pardner.

Go to the range!
That always helps, regardless of the question...
