Checked my status today and I have made it to "Processing Application"! So I guess the standard wait from here is about another 2 months?

it depends on your county , but from this point , 2 more months sounds about right .
maybe tack on a couple of weeks for good measure .

Paid online 6/26/2009
Received Package 7/11/2009
CHL Class 7/18/2009
Mailed Package 7/21/2009
DPS WebSite says Application Incomplete 7/25/2009
Spoke with DPS 7/27/2009 DPS sez Pictures not signed/DD214N missing/Fingerprint cards not filled out. Lil girl said they had mailed a "detailed" letter.
Received Package/letter from DPS with just one picture to be signed 7/31/2009
Signed and sent back to DPS 7/31/2009
Verified DPS had it 8/4/2009
Took Utah CHL Class 8/8/2009
Mailed in Utah Package 8/10/2009
Received confirmation Utah is processing application 8/18/2009
As of 8/18/2009 DPS WebSite still says "Application Incomplete"
8/21/09 Sent email requesting aknowledgement that my application is complete.
8/22/09 Received a package today from DPS. Had a letter telling me the DOB on my fingerprint card was not in the proper format. I had put X/XX/XXXX and they wanted XX/XX/XXXX. So I put a 0 in front of the nine for the month and mailed it back.

Well, one month after sending it off, I got my fingerprint card back.

The Deputy did it with the machine, which printed his ID # on the card, in the signature box. I imagine that this is standard procedure and good enough for court and sending folks to prison.

But it's not good enough for DPS. They want him to sign it in ink as well. Oh well...

I am convinced (no I am not a conspiracy fruit nor wear a tin foil hat) that the real issue is not resources to process applications nor background checks. That is way too easy to resolve.....I am convinced it is management at DPS does not like gun carrying law abiding citizens. Maybe middle management or maybe upper management...but as business owner myself for over 30 years I can say without hesitation that if there is an issue and one really wants to fix it you can....and if you do not wish to fix it you can throw up as many obstacles as possible to make it die on the vine.
Somebody or a group of management at DPS is anti gun.

You bring up a real good point...but remember we are talking about government jobs here. My very good friend took a government internship during college and he was routinely criticized by his superiors for getting too much work done too fast...

I hear what your saying friend....but....just to be slow and lazy does not account for the facts DPS is playing "games" here outside/above and beyond just incompetence. I mean being lazy does not account for one letter stating your app is incomplete because a picture isn't signed.....then almost a month later saying "Oh now it is incomplete because your birth date format is incorrect".....that is flat out in your face roadblocks to the process.
I wonder how many people give up? Is that their plan? That we will just give up? Does the State of Texas really want it's citizens armed? Trained and carrying? If you listen to the politicians the answer is yes. But actions speak louder than words where I am from.

You make a lot of sense...If this is what they are doing its a pretty sad world we live in

Back on topic, it would appear that there is a slight, remote, picayune, insignificant chance that the DPS is picking up the pace a little. If you look in the June waiting forum, you'll see that one member just got his plastic.

I won't be hitting the 60 day point until the mid part of September, but that doesn't mean I'm not chomping at the bit. It's all I can do to refrain from going to the gun show this weekend.....

I have to admit, the tempation to make a joke here almost overwhelmed me. The thought that some wise guy might have sent a case of laxatives to the DPS with a note to please expedite his application......That would probably have as good an effect as sending them a bouncy check along with the application.....

Oops! I guess I made a joke anyway! My apologies!

Disclaimer: Any attempt of humor by me is not to be taken seriously...... :tiphat:

Stay focused, Sarge. The Texas DPS has no intent on managing your health care. That is something/somewhere altogether different. DPS has hired a bunch of new people to process the huge increase in applications. I'm not surprised that there will be unfortunate newby mistakes made. Not a government conspiracy to keep you from getting your CHL.
