Re: April 2009 Applications
Arghhhhh!
OK...so I was sworn in as US citizen on June 10th after having had several FBI checks and my fingerprint taken more times than I care to count.
We (the good lady wife) went to see her family in TN immediately after the ceremony. I got back and flipped the DPS an email on 23rd June asking if they needed to see a copy of my Natuarlization certificate.....nothing. So I called them and spoke to a helpful young lady who told me the as they have a copy of my green card and proof of residency in TX that they had all they needed. Cool!
Fast forward to yesterday (6th July) I decide (on my day off work) that it is time to apply for my US passport, so away I go to the USPS and file for a passprt (6 week wait), they take my Naturalization Certificate to send to the passport office (understandably).
I return to work today and see an email in my inbox from the DPS saying....fax a copy of your Naturalization certificate please! Erm.....it is on the way to The Lord only know where. So I call the DPS up the conversation goes something like this
"I got an email asked me to fax my Naturalization certificate. I was told you didn't need it and it has been sent to the passport office and will be gone 6 weeks, can I send you a scanned copy of it as a jpg?"
"Sorry sir, we need to see the certificate. Can't you fax it?"
"I don't have it, it is at the passport office, can I send a scanned copy of it to you an attachment?"
"can't you fax it?"
"Fax what? a jpeg?"
"Yep"
"It is a picture file, a jpg, no I can't fax it. Can you not accept it"
"a picture of it? No you need to fax it"
"But it is a scanned image of it just like a fax, but in full living color"
"Yes that will be fine. Can you fax a copy?!"
"Can't I just send it as an email attachment?"
"The scanned copy? Yes, but not a picture"
Exasperated I emailed the file and haven't heard anything back yet. Hopefully I won't have to wait 6 weeks before the passport office send it back, but if they refuse to accprt the scan I may be delayed 6 weeks at least.

hi, DanAF5W wrote:Hey y'all
I am new to the board and just wanted to say hello to everyone.
Sure does take DPS a while to process, I mean I am retired USAF 24 years, have an active security clearance (not the highest one I have ever had if you get my drift), been in TX since 02... how hard is it to run a background check? Must admit 2/3rds of my CHL class have had issues with their finger print cards, and several have had other problems with their applications.
Our CHL Class was on the 4th of April
Package sent to DPS on the 6th of April
Not sure when I got the pin
FP Card returned late May/returned the same day
I live in La Vernia township in Wilson County
Tomorrow will be 93 days, did y'all call them to follow up at any point?
Shifting Gears here (sorry), but this seems to be a great forum, I have learned quite a lot since finding it, and have filled in a few blanks left out there from the CHL class. Thanks to the site owner(s) and kudos to the moderators for a great service to the Texas Concealed Community!!! Also I wanted to add, I did not see a lot of flaming and feuding like on other boards, so hats off to the members too!!!
All the best!
Dan

Sorry to hear about DPS Telling you they didn't need something first, then later changing their mind. Wish I could tell you it was an isolated case, but, unfortunately, it is not. They do these sorts of things all the time.
I, personally, stopped taking their circus act seriously quite a bit ago
Also, on the above, they took your ORIGINAL certificate? For some reason that strikes me as something you should not have given them to keep. They might lose it, and not return it!
They should have accepted a certified copy or something.
There's a few documents that no-one but me ever gets the original of, other then to look at and hand right back. My DD-214, My Honorable Discharge Certificate are just two that I can think of off the top of my head.
My wife doesn't even carry her Green card on her unless she has to. She carries a full-color copy instead.
The originals are kept in a fire safe, inside another locked cabinet back home.

Re: April 2009 Applications
this may sound silly but why don't you print the picture of the nat cert and then fax the picture... not sure of the quality but if it works it worksKevinf2349 wrote:Arghhhhh!
