How Many Fingerprint Cycles

#1

Post by chuck_in_texas »

I'm new to the forum, so I'm sure that this has come up before. Tried the search, but didn't find too much. Here's the issue:

I'm going for my THIRD set of fingerprints. When I took the class in December, the tech told me: "you're going to be rejected, because I can't get a clean enough print". I should explain that I turned 70 and my hands have seen rough service for a lot of years.

Sure enough, after about 8 weeks, I got a form letter telling me to re-take them and giving me the website of a firm that does it electronically and advertises 98% accuracy. So I made an appointment and after a 2 week wait, got them scanned, the computer said "looks good", and sent them off. they've been gone about 6 weeks, and today I received another, this time saying that the "FBI had rejected them".

I called the CHL bureau, got a very helpful clerk, who explained that this oftern happens. I asked her how many times it could happen and she replied: "until the FBI accepts them".

Give me a break. Of course my skin is rough. I've been earning a living for many, many years.

Seriously now - - - - - how many times can they pull this? By the way, I'm going to keep on going each time. I'm entitled to a license by law and am not about to let some small issue keep me from it.

Any ideas?

There comes a time when your Passport Photo is as good as it's going to get and there is a time when your fingerprints are as good as they're going to get - they are what they are.

Mrs. Oldgringo's prints were 66 years old and were rejected three (3) times before we had F.A.S.T. prints taken and submitted. Immediately on the heels of the fourth (4th) fingerprint submission were written letters to the Gov., the Lt. Gov., State Senator, worthless Representative and Manager of CHL. Her pLastic was received a week later - 160 days after initial application. That was almost two years ago.

my first re-take WAS with the FAST scan system. (by the way, I spent 40 years in engineering and teach electronics part-time at the local CC, I know how scanning works, and the scans looked good to me! Made me look like a 30 year old again!) So this second re-take will be with FAST scan also.

If (and I hope it doesn't come to that) I fail this one, I'll follow your method and get a letter out to everyone I can.

thanks for the advice!

i went through the finger print resubmission 3 times.
FAST does not do CHL prints here.
the last time DPS sent two FBI cards had them done by the
sheriff's office they also told me my prints where barely there but
they gave me a "note" to send in with the prints saying these prints
are as good as they are going to be.
received my license in about a month after DPS signed for the last submission.

be sure you follow the directions in the rejection letter to the "T" .

you will make it.... mine was 105 days

I just received a notice about my prints too. The first set even had a note to go with it. Well, its been 6 wks since I sent my packet in so I guess things are moving quicker. Knock on wood this problem doesn't drag out.

I, too, have a hard time with my fingerprints. The prints for my first instructor's application in 1995 were rejected three times. After the third rejection, I drove to the DPS headquarters in Austin for prints. They took my prints there, and submitted a note stating "Best Prints Available." Those prints were not rejected.

For subsequent renewals, I have had my prints taken at the local Sheriff's office. The technician submits a note on Department letterhead explaining that, even after thorough washing, application of Ridge Builder, and numerous attempts, the prints submitted are the best prints possible. I have not had any further rejections since then.

Good luck!

Tom Estep when doing our fingerprints had us lather up our hands about 2 hours prior to taking our prints with hand lotion. By moisturizing the skin it helps make the ridges in your prints pop out.

We passed around a bottle at CHL class about 2 hours before we took the prints, then again about 30 minutes before.

Make sure your hands are nice and moisurized, but dont do it RIGHT before you take your prints when they are all greasy. Just make sure it hasnt worn off from a typical coating.

Hope that helps? That is if you havent been doing that before..its worth a shot.
