Ok ~ well I called the DPS and they told me that the pictures were "Poor quality". I don't know why that is when Linda and Marty (my instructors) do this all the time. But none the less it's a show stopper. The frustrating thing is that I called to see what the time frame was going to be after I got them the new Pics. I asked her (Rebecca at the DPS) if everything else was already done (like the background check and all) and she said that it wasn't and that the time frame would be 120 - 150 days from when I get them the new pics!! Is it just me or does that sound CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead:

Just had an incredible call! The person working on my license called to say that it is ready to go except for one item they need from a municipal court in Kansas. 31 years ago, I was given a ticket for illegal purchase and possession of alcohol by a minor. In exchange for my testimony against the liquor store owner, I didn't have to pay the fine or appear in court, and the record was expunged. Fast forward to this summer, and I listed it on my CHL application. The DPS person told me that I would need a misdemeanor check from that court, showing that I was cleared. I told her that since it was so long ago, that it probably shouldn't have been listed, and in so many words, she agreed, but that I would still need the paperwork sent to them. Also, she said to make sure that what you put on your application really should be on the application. She did say that my license would be in her hands tomorrow, and she would send it out after she receives the paperwork.

Found the phone number for the municipal court, called them, and I was on hold for over 30 minutes, without ever speaking to someone. My now favorite DPS person called back while I was waiting and said that she had checked further, and would be able to clear my application today and would send the license tomorrow. WHEW!!! I didn't even know what I would say to the people at the municipal court, and her call saved my day.

I asked her what the real holdup is, and she replied that they had indeed brought on more people to help with data entry, and now, the people who do the final stages of the process are swamped. I didn't press her for confirmation on the hurricane Ike information, but her story makes sense. She said the only group that didn't get help was hers, and since they have some specialty training, they probably won't get any further help.

Several posters have mentioned checking their renewal progress on line, but I can't find where to do that. Can someone help me with that?

Many Thanks,

Called DPS today to inquire. I noticed at least one other person who submitted on the same day I did got their plastic this week. The DPS person was very pleasant and helpful. She told me the license is ready to go except the FBI background check has yet to be completed, and that the hurricane will delay that. She did not know how long the delay would be.

I did not ask why Harris County would be a delay in an FBI background check. Can someone explain the process to me?

Thanks

I would imagine it would be because we were without power for so long, it kinda put a hold on everything. Im not really sure how it all works with that though, still, its very disappointing seeing as i'm in Harris county as well. :???:

However I am glad to see that there are August applications being completed!!! :anamatedbanana

I spoke to someone over at DPS Austin today, and they said that my application had been processed completely, with the exception of my Harris County background check....she said that she had tried to contact the county concerning the status of the BC, and never got a call back....how is this possible?? I bought my new carry weapon 2 weeks ago (sweet Colt Defender with custom grips) :fire , and it only took 1 minute to complete the BC then....my question is this: How is it possible for me to purchase a deadly weapon in less than 2 minutes, but it takes the DPS guys almost three months to do the exact same thing? :ack: Why isn't a phone call sufficient concerning the BC for the CHL when it's perfectly fine for purchasing a weapon? Can someone please explain this to me??

The background checks for CHL are MUCH more extensive than for a NICS check. The NICS checks to make sure you don't have a felony background. The CHL checks go to state and county and also check for back taxes, child support, etc.

Yeah, I understand the literal reason as to why Keith, but why is it easier for me to buy a weapon, than to carry it? I guess that I'm just frustrated to the hilt....

nils ~ I thought you had someone pushing the app along? You might try and see if they can help. I'm frustrated that my pics weren't good enough and I had to send more! I'm tired of waiting already and I'm sure you are as well. Good luck.

Just wanted to update like I said I would...... my license came in the mail today!!! :woohoo :anamatedbanana

And for some reason the address on the license is my address down here at school but on the application I put my permanent address as my parent's house back home. Whats really odd is how it shows my address here at school but they mailed it to my parent's house. Why would that be? I'm just confused on how they could get that confused. I figure I won't make a big deal of it and just go to the DMV on monday to renew my driver's license so the two will match. Now I just gotta wait until next week before I can start to carry since I gotta get the new driver's license and wait on my dad to mail my chl down here to me.

All in all............ I'm just REALLY REALLY REALLY excited to have my chl so soon!!!

I wish you all luck in getting your chl asap!

I have lived my whole life, 22 years, in Denton county and the past year or so down here in Hays county. Not sure if it was just pure luck or the fact I didn't have many places to check on me but somehow I made it through pretty fast.
