Hey ya'all, this is amazing:
My wife submitted her application on 8/8/08.....and it went "Processing" on 8/14/08!!!!! Just like me, she did her paperwork at class, then applied online, and mailed packet to DPS upon couple day receipt of auto-fill application from DPS. We both received our PINs on the cover letter accompanying the auto-fill application.
DPS recently hired 50 new processors, and I'm wondering if this reflects new procedures being implemented, or just a fluke. Anyone else have this experience? I submitted my application 5/19/08, went Processing on 7/25/08, and still waiting like most of us on this forum.
I'm not saying they followed my suggestion by any means, but some time back I suggested DPS immediately open packets, and immediately submit prints and request backgrounds, then electronically follow receipt of those items. Maybe the new processors are following a similar procedure. If so, going forward, this could indeed get the system back to a more normalized, roughly 60 day processing.
New members, let us know if you experience something similar.

Re: New Processing Procedures in Place????
I promised I'd report back this week. I did my daily check of the dps website and found my status to be "processing application". That's only 7 days after they've received it!!! At least some process must have changed that they are opening their mail sooner and getting it entered into the system. Maybe they are starting to request background checks sooner to minimize that delay or maybe the 50 additional people are starting to cut down the backlog.
In any case, I certainly like the outcome!!!

Re: New Processing Procedures in Place????
Very interesting. My wife and I both submitted our applications on the same day, and both were received by DPS on August 4th.
Yesterday, the status for both of us was "Packet sent to applicant", but I just now checked and they both are now at "Processing Application".
So I can confirm that it took exactly 16 days for both of our applications to move from receipt to "Processing Application".
