When you do an online application, Austin will mail you a packet with forms prepopulated with all of your information you type in. Hence, you application is in the "Packet mailed to Applicant" stage. Now, if you've already mailed them the packet back containing your prints and pictures, with TR-100, you should go into the "Processing Application" phase. My guess is that they haven't opened your packet yet to get you into the processing application phase.

However, I also did the online route, and I was in the "Processing Application" phase within 3 weeks, so not sure what is going on. Personally, I wouldn't read too much into that status page. People have reported that they got their plastic, and either didn't get a PIN number, or didn't ever get beyond the "Processing Application" state. I wouldn't worry about it right now. If it hasn't changed by the 90 day mark, I would definately start calling. My guess is that they have your packet, but haven't started processing it, which is typical. Most accounts I have read said that applications will set easily for a month before being opened.

yeah I emailed back and the guy said that status is "normal" for someone that's one month and two days in.

which seems ridiculous.

but at the same time, not unexpected.

I called in yesterday to see if my app was in process. the lady asked me when I mailed it in and when I told her a few weeks ago she  and said " we are currently working on March apps. we havent even started on April apps let alone May, call back in a few months." A few months? She cant be serious! Heh. Oh well the wait begins. I think she was exaggerating a bit since there are alot of April apps that have been approved. Of course I exaggerated also with my send in date. So when should we start a June thread in August or September? "rlol"

Well, I doubt they are still working on just March applicants. I've read plenty of April applicants (just read about 2 that got their license today that sent their applications in April (one late April)) who have now got their plastic. I suspect that they are finishing up March applications and well into April applications by now.

5/21 took CHL class
5/23 Mailed packet via certified mail
6/20 Hadn't received PIN yet so I emailed DPS
6/23 DPS responds saying that my application has not yet been entered into the system.
7/02 DPS says that it takes 8-12 weeks to just receive the application.

is this normal? 3 months to begin the process? I still haven't receive my PIN.

7/08 changed addresses. Notified DPS, re-requested PIN
7/08 received PIN
7/25 still "Processing Application"
8/15 application approved... waiting on plastic.

Well, I just received my PIN.

... unfortunately, it doesn't work.

Is there a lag time between PIN receipt and activation?

Make sure you are clicking on the CHL Handgun License section, NOT the CHL Handgun Instructor Certificate section. It is a common mistake.

I'm at 50 days even and Aaaaalllllssss Weeelllll.

I have nothing new to report, other than to say that I took my Utah course this last weekend and they should receive today or tomorrow based on USPS site. Texas has approximately 1 1/2 months on Utah. We'll see who finishes first.

I'm taking the Utah class next weekend. It's sad, but I'll probably have that one in hand before some folks have their Texas license.
