Started the process for my wife
Sept 16 - Application submitted
Sept 26 - Picking up gun from Cabela's
Oct 4 - Fingerprints taken
Jan 11 - Range time
Jan 14 - Test taken, passed
Jan 21 - Documents submitted online
Feb 6 - Plastic in hand
Interesting thing is, she was born in Canada. While she is technically a naturalized US citizen (born to a US citizen), her parents never took her to the embassy or anything, so she's been living here with a green card since she was like 3. We'll see if that affects the process at all.

Good for getting her started.
If the Lamesa class doesn't work out I'm holding a class in Lubbock Oct. 29. I can squeeze you in if you need me to.

I'll be working that day and won't be able to drive her. Thanks for the offer though!

I talked to the guy hosting (not teaching, just hosting) the Lamesa class today and he said it's looking likely for November. If anyone is interested in that, hit me up so we can add more people.

I'm not positive about this but I have a theory that the closer you can turn everything in, the faster you get your plastic in the mail. I did my application and fingerprints in January then waited on a lot of my friends to do the class so we could get a better group rate which unfortunately took 6 months to get them all lined up. Now, I have the feeling that my certification is separated from my other info and everyone is too busy processing all of the new applicants to take the time to get it all together and process it. All of the other nine people I took the class with have had theirs for over a month now and they did it all at once. I however am over the 60 day mark. That's just my theory though.

Re: Started the process for my wife
I turned in my application at the end of December, fingerprints on January 5th. Class on the 21st of January with 2 friends. They didn't do their application until after they finished their class. My plastic arrived a month before theirs did.Rixuneaux wrote:I'm not positive about this but I have a theory that the closer you can turn everything in, the faster you get your plastic in the mail. Re: Started the process for my wife
Finally got everything in. Now we wait.
Of course, at this point one has to wonder if this whole process will be for nothing, given what's on the table for the legislative session. It's likely that our fees will have been lower if we waited, and remotely possible that she will not need to be licensed at all.

Don't let what's on the legislative 'table' get you to wondering. What you see on the front end will be very different on the back end. I watched the last session via this forum and it is an interesting education for me on how the process moves items forward.
You were correct to take action now.

Wow. The DPS status website says that all requirements (including background check) are good. Now it says "Print Pending." Shouldn't be long now!
