They miss a deadline that is mandated by law and there is no repercussion. I suggest that anyone over the 60 days promised by law should be entitled to a refund of the application fees, I guarantee you the process would magically speed up if they started losing that funding for each application they dropped the ball on.
Actually, they would just start sending letters asking questions about your application information in order to place in 180 day queue to avoid any fallout. They will find a reason like "the upload was incomplete" or some such to circumvent the statute.

Do you whiners actually think they are playing cards or working 3 hr days?? There has been over a 200% increase in applications compared to this time last year and last year was a banner year. Patience, it will get here when it does and it won't be because they aren't working on it. Generally, people that think that others are goofing off, without knowing those people, are those who probably goofed off their whole life at someone else's expense. Last thing we need is a bunch of impatient LTCer's, hope they get weeded out.

Completely acceptable, even if they just sent a letter saying although the 60 day mark has passed we are swamped and need additional time.....The lack of info seems to be the biggest frustration with this.

How are people that are interested in their status, just trying to seek information "whiners". I came here just to try and get some information and see what others are experiencing. A lot of things have been answered, but there are still plenty of questions out there. People can reasonably expect to get some information regarding their status at a minimum without "whining".

Well, I should have quoted a couple of posts, but you can go back and read them and then you will understand why I stand by my statement. Not trying to offend anyone, just stating truth.

P.S. I even whine sometimes, but I try not to do it about something I know nothing about without checking into it first. (I did say try)

For $140 a pop the licenses should be paying for better services. We keep hearing how $140 is a lot of money...so use it to meet the statutory deadlines... Driver's License is $24 and they have to issue 10's of millions of them...
4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"

They don't have to do intensive background checks for them either. They also have offices and personal all over the state. (That might be a good idea for the LTC division, to put a half a dozen offices throughout the state.)

I'm not convinced they do extensive investigations for LTC's either. I'll bet they do NCIC AFIS, NICS, and Texas DPS automated checks. If nothing comes up, print the card. :rules:

I do believe they are working as hard as they can considering they are understaffed for the influx of applications that they have received. I'm only venting that there has to be a better process in which they can work. This is the 3rd license I've gone through with the state and I'm used to waiting. If anything, I think waiting on a the LTC is a good thing. I'm glad I've had the time I have to research and go to the range to practice. There has to be a better process than this. All 3 times, I've had the same "Status update." Pending/approved, that's pretty much the extent of it. With all the technology we have at our disposal there should be something better than that. That's the only thing I'm trying to get at. I know your comment wasn't a personal attack, but I do know that they are bombarded with apps. We are all lucky to get them when we do. But with the 137k apps they did receive at $140 a pop. There has to be improvements with DPS/RSD.

Not their job to worry about what you are not convinced about. Their job is to do the best they can with what they have. In the mean time have a nice day.

All good points and I agree. Even a better flow of information would be a good place to start.

OK let me restate. They DON'T do extensive investigations. They check automated fingerprint system, computer databases, and then they issue the card. Do you have personal knowledge otherwise? So they're slow because they got a lot of applications this year... For $140 they should do a better job and meet the statutory deadline, or better yet, eliminate the requirement for a license like several other states have done. :banghead:

I thought I was coming to this website to get a feel for timelines and when my fellow future LTC holders are getting their plastic in hopes that I'm not far behind.

Actually, I think I come here to read the debates that go on. Tis far more enjoyable!!!!

Keep it up!
