Re: "Waiting Room"
Hey y'all. I was wondering if any of you have a direct contact number for DPS or an extension number? I already called the other phone line they have online, it's ALWAYS high volume.
I usually call Molly to get an update, but she hasn't responded. She said my background was done and she needed to send it for printing two weeks ago, and all she asked me for was a copy of my hunting license (ATF exemption for non us citizens)..I am tired of waiting! My all in date was January 14th..but got an email on the 21st confirming it.
Thank you in advance!

Re: "Waiting Room"
My brother's LTC arrived in yesterday's mail. Nine days after mine, though our dates were the same.
I'm out; the rest of y'all, hang in there! It'll come!

Re: "Waiting Room"
Running a NICS check to purchase a firearm is a far cry from any kind of "background check".SplittinHairs wrote:What "background check" do they run? Cause it takes about 30 seconds to get cleared for a gun purchase.
There are several different levels of a true "background check", depending on what it's for.
Back when I enlisted in the Air Force, near the end of basic training, they decided what my career field was going to be. Since I would be working in base telecommunications centers, I needed a Top Secret / Background Investigation (TS/BI). It took nearly six months to run that "background check". Men in black suits interviewed (and scared the heck out of almost everyone who I'd ever known... many of which I had not listed on the forms I filled out. They found out who they were, on their own. My clearance was approved just in time to start my last block of training, which included classified information. Some of my classmates had to wait and attend that last block at a later time because their background check wasn't complete.
Several years later, I got an assignment where part of my duties would require me to work around intelligence data. Now I needed a TS/SBI (Top Secret / Special Background Investigation). Even though I already had the TS/BI, which had been updated every 5 years, it took another 6 months to complete the even deeper background check.
Again, comparing a NICS check with the LTC background check is like comparing apples to mashed potatoes.

Re: "Waiting Room"
Interesting update...
I got a random email from that office of my state senator (Mr. Charles Perry). I had previous emailed them back in the middle of last month. They email back and told me they would look into It; I said thank you and moved on with my day. Yesterday I got my calls from the DPS about my application, and then today the chief of staff of Mr. Perry emailed me and said the DPS contacted them just to give some info on what was going on with my application. So the DPS has everything they need and they are now reviewing. Although I received all the information yesterday, it was good to know that they all contacted my senator back. So regardless of the outcome of my app. at least I know I have someone to contact if I do actually have a problem.
Day: 91
178 days remaining from submitting additional documents.

Re: "Waiting Room"
Hey, where am I? What's going on?
I think I passed out for 6-8 weeks sitting in the Waiting Room....
Why am I still here? Oh, no... Did I miss when they called my number? I was not conscious and now I have to wait for them to come around to me again?
Let me just look at my number here... Number 1,083,713...
"Now serving Number 789,062.."
Confirmation date: JANUARY 21, 2016 (I have decided to start including the year...)
ugh, just bored. anyone else in here?
Patience...

Re: "Waiting Room"
I'm 4 days behind you (Jan25), and I've decided that when day 90 rolls around and I still don't have my LTC, I'm going to go buy a new pistol, just for the pleasure of filling out the 4473, all the while thinking "If RSD had it together, I wouldn't be filling out this 4473 right now".
Re: "Waiting Room"
I am WAITING for the plastic for the opposite reason! I want to walk in and say, "I'll take that one" and when they get out the paperwork, just hand over the license...mkruck wrote:I'm 4 days behind you (Jan25), and I've decided that when day 90 rolls around and I still don't have my LTC, I'm going to go buy a new pistol, just for the pleasure of filling out the 4473, all the while thinking "If RSD had it together, I wouldn't be filling out this 4473 right now".
90 days seems an inevitability at this point.

Re: "Waiting Room"
I am trying to get mine for that exact reason too. The guns I have bought I've been delayed every time. So now I assume the DPS hates me just as much as the FBI/NICS. So once I get the license I am going to buy the gun I want without being delayed and having the annoying moment of not being able to go shoot it that day. So until then I will just chill in the waiting room.meyerch5 wrote:I am WAITING for the plastic for the opposite reason! You do realize that you will still have to fill out the paperwork, right? They just don't have to call NICS.meyerch5 wrote:I am WAITING for the plastic for the opposite reason! Makes no difference if you have a license or not, you are still gonna have to fill out the 4473!!mkruck wrote:I'm 4 days behind you (Jan25), and I've decided that when day 90 rolls around and I still don't have my LTC, I'm going to go buy a new pistol, just for the pleasure of filling out the 4473, all the while thinking "If RSD had it together, I wouldn't be filling out this 4473 right now".

I'm getting frustrated with the whole process actually, I've emailed asking what the wait time SHOULD be and haven't gotten a response yet. A friend of my husband submitted his application 2 weeks after I did and he received his license last week.
Wow your story sounds just like mine my co-workers got both of theirs before me. They sent their apps in 3 weeks after me !

Re: "Waiting Room"
I saw an Iraqveteran8888 YouTube episode in which they weren't knocking Texas but both states that they were surprised that with Texas being such a Red State it took so long to get a permit. They said they go to the DMV, fill out a form, and they have their license in a week. They live in Georgia. Saw another post about Tennessee, seemed to work much about the same.merrittj214 wrote:12/23/15: Application submitted

I called back in March and they said it would be done by the middle of April. Here we are and nothing has come. Website has not changed. No plastic. Nothing in the mail. No news. Tumbleweeds. Is this just a Texas thing, or do all the sates take this long? My friend at work said his took a week in GA. He might have been full of _______ though.
