I was getting frustrated about DPS' lack of responsiveness to calls/emails/anything and my 80+ day timeline, so yesterday I emailed all of my state representatives and Gov. Greg Abbott. Today I received a call back from my state rep's office! They said they were going to rattle the chain at DPS to try to get me an answer. He even gave me his number to call back if I didn't hear something. Imagine that!

Hopefully I'll hear back soon and get plastic soon! :txflag:

By the way, for anyone wanting to look up their state rep, I used this site:

I called again this morning, and I noticed that every time I call, I hear something new.

Last time was a new message talking about longer wait times, and to not bother if you're around 30 days in. This time I was given an option for a call back. Since the wait time was 20 minutes, I chose the call back.

About 5 minutes later I receive my call back, and I'm told I'm number one in the queue.

I sit on hold for 15 minutes, contemplating the purpose of a call back if I still have to wait and listen to that sweet sweet hold music.

I finally speak with Daniel, and politely tell him I think I might be over 60 days. He says "You and everybody else".

After a few minutes of garbled speech, I make out that he's telling me I'm approved. No further info on how much longer, and the site still hasn't changed.

I'm guessing it's all up to the printer queue now...

That's awesome! If I wasn't told I was approved this morning, I would have followed in your footsteps.

Think they'll give you a prorated refund for each day over the 60 Mark?

Are you still not able to get anyone on the phone? I'm curious to know what your status is. Surely it's approved by now, and just waiting in the print queue. Its gotta be...

Not sure if you've already mentioned this, but was anything on your record? Or any other reason for a delay? I can't fathom why you would slip through the cracks like this.

Last time I called was about a week ago. It's such a pain to get through and the call is usually worthless anyway...

The only thing in my history is 1 non disqualifying arrest from 2004. I was arrested for DWI but wasn't drunk and the charges were dropped. DPS/RSD hasn't requested any documents from me about this event and I've spoken to them and verified that they don't need anything from me specific to this arrest or anything else.

I just tried calling in, and was able to get into the callback queue. I'm waiting on them to call me now. Maybe they can give me some good news on my luck 85th day of waiting :banghead:

"Still in background check. We have all we need. Please just wait longer."

She could give no indication of how much longer it could be. No telling. Could be weeks, or days, or anything in between.

I'm so frustrated with this nonsense.

What the deuce...I was hoping you would receive better news. On the bright side, at least it's being looked at...although it's not that bright of a side considering the wait. I wonder if calling your local rep got it out of no-man's- land and into background check.

Did you happen to mention how long you've been waiting while you were on the phone? Or tell them you have spoke with a local rep?

The DPS rep I spoke with today knew how long I'd been waiting because she verified all of my submission dates while we were on the phone. I reminded her that today is 85 days and she just said "you'll have to wait longer. There's nothing we can do."

Also, I received a response from the office of Greg Abbott saying the following (I edited my name out)

"Dear Mr. Sweatmachine: Thank you for taking the time to contact the Office of the Governor. We understand that you are concerned. I am asking Colonel Steven McCraw, Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, for his staff’s assistance in reviewing and responding both to you and this office on the information shared."

Hopefully I'll get some traction with the Governor's Office asking DPS management to look into it. My guess is more waiting...

Interesting. That's good they emailed you back. Hopefully you stirred the pot in the governors office that they can fix the problem for all future applicants.

I'm still waiting as well. Hang in there. Your day is coming.

Looks promising. Ask them to sweeten the pot, and give you a 10 year expiration date for your pain and suffering.

Couldn't get through but after 15 tries was lucky enough to finally get to wait on hold for 30 minutes. Lady said they had everything. Couldn't tell me when to expect anything. Said "she would like to tell me 2 weeks" but couldn't tell me anything. So there's that. But she did say "everything looks good" so there is the silver lining!

Been watching yall post. Thought I should share as well. I have 3 other friends on the same timeline and we are all in the same boat.

Continue waiting...

Hook em!
Still waiting. No website change, no plastic. I'm extremely frustrated. Record is clean.
