Never received a confirmation from RSD

#1

Post by scattermaster racing »

Hi all,
I put in my CHL application online about 1-8-16
Fingerprinted on 1-29-16
Took my class on 1-30-16
Submitted my supporting documents on 2-1-16
Here it is, 2-10-16 and I never got an email from them to confirm that they even received my information.
I have tried to call them many times but I always get the same recording, that there is nobody to answer the phone.
Should I be concerned?
When I sent in my documents, I did NOT send my checklist, but the checklist doesn't say I have to.
I sent it in today.

Hi and welcome to the forum. :txflag:
I am not sure who is RSD.
My suggestion is to be patient.
You are getting excited wanting your LTC, but expecting to hear something so quickly isn't feasible.

RSD is the Regulatory Services Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
They process the CHL program.
Looking through some posts I saw most guys getting an email verification like the next day. (then wait 6-8 weeks for processing)
I was concerned that I might have missed something that I should have sent in. I can't even contact them to ask!
Oh well, I guess I just have to wait it out.
thx

Well Well Well,
My confirmation email just came in!
I wonder if it's just a coincidence that just an hour earlier I sent them my checklist?
Gotta be huh?
Well anyway, the email says to wait about 6 weeks.
Yippee!

I sent all my stuff in on 1/15/16 and did not get confirmation until 1/21/16. Sometimes they just get behind. I'd say your clock started with the confirmation. At least that's when I started mine. He's hoping for a painless quick procees for the both of us.

this really bites!
I took my class 1-30-16
sent in my info 2-1-16
Friday 2-26-16 I received a phone call from the range where I did my class. They informed me that the officer doing the training had let his license lapse and my CHL-100 is no good. :-(
They offered to give me another cert signed by another officer who just happened to be witnessing the class.
I sent it in on Saturday 2-27-16 and received another email from the state today verifying that they received my supporting documents.
The guys at the range said it would not be a big deal, but my waiting clock would have to start over. Dang.
I"m a bit anxious about the whole deal. What if the state doesn't recognize the second CHL-100 and turns me down because I sent in a bogus one to start with?

FWIW, you didn't send in a bogus one. You can't be held liable for an instructor's license expiration which was not communicated to you, beyond simply being required to get a replacement CHL-100 signed by someone able to do so.

I'm no expert, but an affidavit from the range providing the details of the screw up (theirs, not yours) may help, I would go ahead and procure the affidavit, but not send it until asked for clarification from DPS. Sounds like kind of a fly by night group you had to deal with. JMHO

They gave me a letter along with the new CHL-100. It explains what happened and that they intend to rectify it by issuing another cert by an instructor that DOES have a current license.
Also came with 2 free range passes.
I can send that in to the state if they ask but hopefully they won't.

I don't want to give the place a bad name. I've been there about 4 times now and I like the staff. They seem friendly and respectful. The range is about like the other indoor ranges I've been to. It's pretty nice.
