The link takes you to a page on Senator Feinstein's webpage describing the bill she intends to introduce in January.

What does she mean by "named" firearms? Because manufacturers could change the engraving tooling and model names/# pretty easily.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

Good thing it exempts "manually-operated" firearms. It looks like the only thing that will be banned is online click-to-shot hunting (is that company still in operation today?).

Salesman: This is the "Winchester .22" The serial number on this one indicates it is a black, fully-automatic, shotgun, with evil-laser-eyes.

I emailed Senator Feinstein and here is the text.

"Senator Feinstein: I am writing to you today in regards to your proposed gun control bill. I am the owner of firearms that are most certainly on the list that you want to ban. I am an honorably "retired" veteran of 20+ years of USAF service, including many overseas deployments where I worked very hard to ensure mission success. I have had exactly one speeding ticket in my entire life, when I was a much younger man. I want to know why you think that me owning semi-automatic rifles is somehow a menace to our society, to the point where you want to ban my firearms. Firearms, in and of themselves, are simply machines. These machines require human operators. If I take a semi-automatic rifle, load it with a 30 round magazine, charge the chamber, take it off "safe" and lay it on the table, it will remain that way indefinitely until it corrodes into unusability if not acted upon by a human being. You don't need gun control, you need CRIMINAL CONTROL, including control of the criminally insane. None of my firearms has ever harmed another human being and it will stay that way unless my family, my friends, or I are subjected to unprovoked violent attack. I urge you to reconsider just how you are going about this ban that you want to put into place. It is excessive and unnecessarily penalizes a large number of people just like me who have done nothing to anyone to warrant such infringement upon my rights."

I'm sure it won't do one little bit of good, but I'm at least going to have my say.

If it passes, and that is a big IF, at least the weapons currently owned will be "grandfathered."

but the transfer of those "grandfathered" weapons will be illegal; ie your kids can't inherit them, they'll need to "turn them in" when you are gone. (They won't be paid for them.)

So, private property is "taken" without compensation.

Senator Feinstein came to prominence upon the murder of San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Mosconi by fellow Supervisor Dan White. She served as the board's first female president in 1978, during which time the assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and City Supervisor Harvey Milk drew national attention to the city. Feinstein, who was the first to discover the shootings, succeeded Moscone as mayor. Since then, if not before, she has been a relentless uncompromising foe of gun ownership.

What she is describing is essentially what we live with in California. AR-15 type rifles, among others, are banned by name in Penal Code 12276. I won't take up bandwidth by copying the list but it is extensive. You can see what she has in mind by referring to California Firearms Laws published by the Department of Justice, http://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/pdfs/ ... l2007.pdf? If you owned these prior to the specified date, they are grandfathered.

Magazines of more than 10 rounds are prohibited unless you owned them in CA prior to the magic date. Only approved handguns may be sold at retail, although peace officers can sell unapproved guns privately to anyone, and if you move to CA you can bring them in, but no magazines more than 10 rounds, and sell them. I bought an HK45 from a cop who needed some ready cash, perfectly legal, although HK45 is not on the approved list. The penalty is that no unapproved handgun can be listed on a CCW, for the few who have them. I did not renew mine last time in anticipation of the move to Texas.

To buy a handgun, retail, gun show, private etc. you have to go through an FFL, and there is a 10 day wait for DOJ approval. You must have a Handgun Safety Certificate issued within 5 years, and you can buy no more than one handgun at retail every 30 days.

But wait! There's more! Look at the link to the Gun Laws booklet. That's what DiFi has in mind.

IF it passes, and IF that is the case, I suppose it won't matter to me much when I am dead and gone because I won't know any difference. Although it angers me currently to know that it is a remote possibility. However, I remain very optimistic that it will not pass anyway.

I didn't haul myself and family out of NorCal when I "retired" from the service just to put up with those same stupid laws (and I am acquainted with them) here in the Free State of Texas. :mad5

That's how I feel. I'm not getting out of this socialist hellhole to see my native state become one.

I don't think it will happen. Most of the rest of the country won't stand for it, and if any of the Congress(wo)men from free states are inclined to support it, they will be in dire jeopardy of ending their careers, like what happened in 1994.

That said, we cannot rest on our oars, or just sit around hoping. Anyone who supports this needs to be voted out, no matter what other amusing virtues they may pretend to have.

I supported a form of term limits, which is replacing ALL 435 Congressmen at once, if only for the impact it would have on the new guys. The People are watching, bucko!

Little off subject, but I have already "sold" my guns to my adult children. I made out a bill of sale and had it notorized. Who knows if this will mean anything 25 years from now. My Daughter (in a kidding way) wanted to know when she can pick up her AR.

We are to a large extend the products of our individual experiences. That being the case, it's easy to see why she is so set on pushing the legislation. I certainly don't agree with her, but I can understand why she looks at this issue the way she does.

Going to contact the FFL I've used for the last couple of transfers since moving. He's an attorney and I would possibly like to set up a trust. Hoping this would allow me to pass on my "banned" guns -- and motivate me to delve into the Class III items I've been putting off. Anyone here have an attorney establish this sort of trust? What's a rough ball park in terms of cost? I'd ask for referrals, but I expect I'll need someone versed in LA's Napoleonic code, not common law like in Texas.
