This guy is rising in the polls. It is scary to think that enough people agree with him that the possibility exists that someone like him might get elected some day. I don't even recognize the democratic party anymore.

And just for the record, what other kinds of guns are there that don't kill?

Bernie is talking to the masses and trying to get their votes. Folks on this forum are somewhat insulated and of a similar mind set with other participants, so it might not occur that a lot of folks out there do not own guns, have never owned or used guns, and see no utility nor safety in their ownership. He just needs a majority to win, so there you go. As for the Republican side of the aisle, the Donald has in the past called himself a Democrat, has in the current campaign gone out of his way to offend Hispanics, women, the gay community, the handicapped, black Americans, and I'm sure I'm leaving something out. All those people have the potential to vote and if they are worked up enough, they will. In my view this one guy has set the Party back 20 years. I don't think you need to worry about Bernie and his attitude toward firearms. It just isn't going to happen, unless of course the Donald keeps shooting himself in the foot. (no pun)

I would have to disagree. I mean he leads the republican polls alone sometimes by nore than 20% and typically goes up more every time he says something "offensive."

Very good point. But poll results are based on who is being asked the questions. On a Tuesday in November, the electorate will have been reminded umpteen times of Donald's remarks, and they may vote for Bernie or Hillary or someone else. Really now, Donald can only make spastic gestures when referring to a reporter with a handicap and then deny he did it, make remarks about Mexican rapists and then deny he said it, etc.

A public school teacher isn't going to vote for someone whose platform is the expansion of charter schools; women aren't going to vote for candidates who overtly bully women, and the Hispanic community isn't going to vote for a guy who has called them, their parents and uncles rapists.

I fear that the heirarchy within the Republican Party has no idea who their actual constituents are any more, how many people are swayable to a different position, and what it will take to redirect the moderate arm of the party so it is not lost to the opposition.

I wasn't really talking about republican strategy, I'm just amazed at how many naive people there are who could support Sanders. Of course they've got a criminal and a socialist to pick from.

Just saw a Fox News poll that showed Sanders had over 50% support from Democrats in both Iowa and New Hampshire. If half of democrats support him, and half of the country are democrat, that means that 25% of the nation support someone who wants to confiscate guns. That is his stated position. The scary part to me is there are that many voters who would agree with confiscating guns.

Compare today with 30 years ago (if you are old enough to remember) and you have to worry how far the pendulum will swing. I hope I don't have to tell my grandkids about how great America used to be.

25% is probably a conservative figure. You're just looking at Democrats. You have a lot of Republicans who say they support the constitution but are also willing to melt down a lot of steel. The mistake made here is thinking that gun ownership or the concept of armed self defense is a black and white issue narrowly separated by a ballot box. I know a lot of Republicans who turn their noses up at the thought of owning a gun. Don't confuse NRA support for candidates with the voters who elect them. There are other issues that they find higher on their pecking orders.

You are correct. That makes the issue even more worrisome.

This is turning into something very interesting, on the democratic side. Bernie pitted against Hillery....Hillary...Hilariously...whatever, it seems. are pitted against one another. I pray that distention continues. NOW....throw Bloomberg into the mix(although Mike is just putting feelers out for the moment and may go independent, although he's a STRONG democrat) I feel the distention growing, and I hope that distention flourishes. In the back of my mind, I feel the dems are scrambling trying to find their way....trying to swim upstream if you will.

IMHO, all 3 are too radical to truly capture the will of the American people's....well, at least 2. The third shrouds her lies, and backed by her husband to cover up the despicable actions while she was Secretary of State, which is unforgivable, IMO. The truth is coming out, and she's in full blown damage control.

I still have faith in the American people. And democrats are American people. I'm quite certain they can see what dismal choices they are facing in the primaries.

Like I said, this is turning into something very interesting.

Television, public education and Academia in general have been indoctrinating young people almost every day of their lives for the last fifty years. What is surprising is the fact that it has taken this long for the number of self avowed socialists to get to these proportions.

Donald Trump is probably going to win in Iowa. Almost certainly going to win in New Hampshire, and after that the bandwagon will be in full swing as they head to the southern states.

He's probably going to win the nomination and I don't even know if he actually believes a single thing that he's saying.

In a few months though I'll have no choice but to put all my support behind a man that I have no faith in. Like the man says "Do we have a country, or do we not?" If the democrats win we may not even have a country anymore.

Once upon a time democracy was a good thing. Back then only the property owners were allowed to vote...

I am actually encouraged by Bernie's success so far. I think most of his support is coming from two groups. One is the very young and idealistic, and that doesn't bother me because they do not show up at the polls. They are also following Churchill's maxim of liberal at 20 and conservative at 40. I honestly think that a good portion of his support is not coming from people who believe in him, but from the anti-Hilary groups. Hilary brings out the haters and they have no where else to go as Democrats right now. I think once Hilary is done, they also will not show up at the polls.

And I do not have any faith in Trump either. My personal opinion is that he is not running to win, but just to be a spoiler and help Hilary win. He and the Clinton's are old friends. He has always supported Democratic candidates. He is trying to split the Republicans and ridicule them by taking conservative positions to the most extreme and making them sound ridiculous to moderates and non-conservatives. And, in my best opinion of him, he does nothing without an eye on the profit for himself. There is no profit in being president (at his income level) but there is a lot of profit to be made in having a president who owes you a big favor. I think he will drop out (or do something to throw the race) as soon as Hilary either loses and bows out or clinches the nomination.

In general, I predict a Republican president next, but they could still lose if they try hard. It will take some maneuvering to recover from Trump, but I think it could be done. I think Bush is effectively out of the race, which makes Rubio the most likely candidate to win, IMO.

Sanders just won New Hampshire. He is promising lots of free stuff without any plan to pay for it. I hope and pray he cannot win. If he does....
