Android and Exchange Server Bug

If you use an Android phone (as I do) as your business mobile, and MS Exchange as you office mail server -- beware!!!

There is a bug (imagine that, with a MS product) which is still being documented wherein the auto-sync between your Android mobile and Exchange server can result in the complete loss of your Outlook calendar and task list. It has happened to three folks at our office since the first of the year. We finally called in a MS Exchange 'expert' (i.e., he gets paid a lot more than I do) who concluded, "There is an apparent incompatibility issue." :totap:

After major buck$ and great consternation, the only solution that he (or the MS tech with whom our IT manager addressed the issue) was a 3rd party app called "Touch Down" for syncing your Android phone with Exchange. It's available via http://www.appbrain.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as a free version (somewhat limited and you cannot change the message at the footer of email or texts sent via the phone). After using it for a week I broke down and bought the full version.

So far so good...

Folks here in our office (where I'm the IT guy) have had success w/ the paid versions of K-9 and TouchDown. The built-in Exchange sync and message list application is pretty bare-bones.

Thanks for the info!

I use Touchdown. Have not had any problems with it.

When I got my Android phone, that was the ONLY way to sync with Exchange. I understand that now you can sync without it, but I think I will stick with it since I paid for it, and it works.

Thanks for the heads up on the bug!

What version of Exchange and what version of Android are you running?

There is a known app and a psuedo workaround but this has more to do with the setup and configuration of an Android phone on Exchange rather than a working Exchange account.

I prefer the Stock Android Email app over K9 and TouchDown.

I run a Epic 4g Rooted with Android 2.3

Well our situation is still working well with exchange but those with large ost files experience phones rebooting randomly.
