Sen. Ellis is at it again. On 3/10, the last day for filing bills, he filed SB1386 a so-called "Assault Weapons" ban. It's not going anywhere, so I'm not even going to call anyone, at least at this point. We have much more important bills to support and oppose.

I suspect we'll see Sen. Ellis engaging in a bit of political profiteering on the blood of the victims of the Tyler Courthouse shootings. Such show-boating with a bill that has zero chance of passing, and that would not have prevented the shootings, is despicable in light of the tragedy suffered by the victims and their families.

Senator Ellis' so-called "Assault Weapons" ban bill (SB1386) has been assigned to the Senate Criminal Justice Committee chaired by Senator Whitmire.

The Senate is different from the House in more than mere numbers. There is greater deference shown to fellow Senators, especially members of the same committee. On the other hand, Senate Committee Chairmen, especially Senator Whitmire, tend not to waste their committee time on bills that have no chance of passing. So, it wouldn't hurt to let the committee members and your Senators know there is no need for this legislation. It was unnecessary and ineffective on the federal level and will be so in Texas.
