WSP Primers in Austin?

#1

Post by AggieMM »

I usually buy Winchester Small Pistol Primers at Sportsman's Warehouse (Round Rock), but they have been out for awhile. Are there other options in the Austin area? Thanks.

I've been having the same problem, only I'm down by Galveston. The place I used to get them in Texas City closed and the other place didn't have the WSP. Midway was back-ordered and Carter's country in Pasadena has been out for a while. CCI's were available but I was looking for the WSP. So, I went to the gun show in Pasadena a few weeks ago and found some. I had a credit card but they only took cash, $27.99/box. I didn't even have enough cash to get one box. I went to the Pasadena show this Saturday ,with cash, and bought 4 boxes. They are now $29.99/ box.

I guess, in a round about way, I'm saying maybe try at the next gun show. The dealer at Pasadena said it was hit and miss for him to get them. Any of them.

Thanks,
Eric

have you tried MacBride's in Austin. they typically have a large selection of reloading supplies. Although I have not been there in quite some time.

You could try Reds North in Pflugerville. I know Red's South has them and Cabelas down in Buda may also.

I finally found some, but it took some calling. I found them at an unlikely place, Eagle Peak Shooting Range, in Leander. They actually have a decent selection of reloading supplies, but with the usual local range markup. 1000 WSP Primers = $29.95.

$29.95 seems to be the going price locally.

In DFW area (CCIDPA) we have placed some combined orders with Powder Valley (http://www.powdervalleyinc.com/). There is a $20 Hazmat charge on each shipment up to 48 pounds of product. A case of 5000 primers (WSP, WSR, or WLP) weighs 5 pounds. So if you get an order together for 9 cases to maximize savings on Hazmat your estimated total costs will be $107.32 per 5000 – or about $21.47 per 1000.

This is based on $102.50 for 5000 WSP, WSR, or WLP. Total Hazmat $20, shipping $19.95, insurance $3.50 split up among 9 cases. No driving to the store and most shipments have arrived a couple days after placing order.
