It's time in Texas for bullet casting..!!(For me)

It's cool outside and I'm finished with most of my projects.
Now it's time to "Cast Bullets"...

I bet a lot of Texans do this, I wait until it's cooler outside like now and make up most of the bullets I will need for the coming year or there abouts...

I need almost everything especially 38/357 bullets and 45's.
This is "some" of what I made last time.
Some are not lubed, some have my home brewed red lube, and some have Alox.

I have also been waiting for it to get cool. I am taking some vacation time the last two weeks of this year (only 2 days left to work . . . today and tomorrow). I intend to first clean and organize the garage. Then I am going to get started casting again.

I have a BUNCH of ingots I made once I melted & cleaned the WW's.

It's not going to last too much longer, so I'll have to go to plan B.

Yea I use cww too , I only load pistol now . I'v been using range scrap lead and it's been working fine in my pistols up to 9mm . I have no way to accuratly test the hardness but no leading at all . I agree wheel weights are getting hard to come by at a price worth going to the trouble of smelting . You might experiment with the range scrap ? I have about 300 pounds of wheel weight ingots but I'm trying to stretch them out . Good luck !

All I have is my old ones.

I can't walk too good right now, So I might as well sit and pour....I have a big blister on my foot I got wearing some new shoes walking with my Grandson all around the property the other day.....It was fun until the blister.

Find a berm to mine.

I got about 80 lb of Pb from one trip at one time. I think I invested 2 to 2.5 hours total digging time. Skimming all those jackets, now that blew.

To the OP;

Nice lookin' slugs. I see the tumble lube but what did you use on those soup cans? They look reddish colored in your pictures.

I'm so far out in the sticks that there isn't a shooting range for many miles..!!!
If I could get to one, I'd mine it all day.
AND, Like Andy said, I'd sell the jackets. I keep and sell all my bad brass and spent primers.
I use to save gallons of 22 lr brass...But it's kinda hard to find these days at a price I'd pay.
I wish I could still find them at Walmart for $9.98 a brick.

Months before the 22's got hard to find, I was buying a brick or two every time I went to Walmart.
I think I still have 10 - 550 packs left. Me and my Sons use to shoot a pack or 2 on the weekends.
For $20 worth of 22's back then, we had a lot of fun....!!!!!!!!

The red lube on my 38 WC's is a home brew lube.

That dredges pot in the background pics looks exactly like the spare pot that came with my turkey frier setup.
And I use it for the exact same thing!
I use mostly range scrap.
I bought a Cabine Tree tester for hardness testing, something every caster should own IMHO

And yes, casting season has begun here in Austin as well.
