Berry Bullets Oily?

#1

Post by Adraper »

Fellows, I opened up a box of 9mm hp Berry plated bullets last night. It's my first time to use these. The berry's were really wet to the point of dripping with some sort of lubricant. I have used other brands of plated with good success but they bullets have always been dry just sime to fmj or even lubed cast. Just using one of the berry's to gage the flare of the casing and fingers were coated with the stuff. Should I leave this stuff on the bullet? Dry them off? I'm concerned it will contaminate the powder. Opinions?

Hmm...I have loaded thousands of bullets from Berry's and have never had anything on them at all. Were these in the black plastic boxes, or shipped from Berrys in their cardboard box (lot of 1000)? Was there anything on the outside of the box? Perhaps something spilled on the box during shipping and got inside onto the bullets....

I use berry's exclusively and have never had an oil issue
the black box arrival indicate they were purchased from a source other than berrys and the cardboard box indicates they came direct from berry's. I order direct to save a few dollars and always free shipping

were they in black plastic or cardboard?

I bought these from Cabela's. 250 ct black plastic boxes firmly sealed with Berrys stickers. I also got some 45 acp and 38 cast. I didn't open the 45 but the 38 were dry. Seemed odd being that wet.

yep it is odd, but maybe they were coated in preparation of extended storage or rough handling on its way to the vendor and subsequent stays in storage.

The times I bought bullets from Berry's web site, anything 500 or under came in a plastic box, the 1k orders came in a cardboard box.

Mine were dry, if they are accepting emails now, send them one and explain what the issue is.
They use to be very good at answering emails BEFORE the craziness...

You may have an issue that they can resolve.

I've ordered 4k from Berry's, 2k of 9mm and 2k of 40. Mine all came dry as a bone in the cardboard boxes.

As an update, whatever was on the bullets must have been volatile. I left the box open overnight and the bullets are dry now. Even the puddle in the bottom of the box is gone. I also opened the other boxes up all those were dry. Bullets seemed to load fine.

Thats just strange..!
Glad its gone, but still a mystery.

You don't have a cat do you?

Sounds strange, but I have read of people upset because cats have got into an open lid tumbler and left a present for the owner..!!!

Hope not....I have barn cats around my property that do a great job at getting snakes, moles, etc.
But sometimes they get a little too curious.
