Don’t think you can shoot yourself in the testicle with a 9; pretty sure you end up removing it.

Was his other region ok? Hopefully he has a full recovery and "operates" as usual!

From the article
“He was trying to place it back in the holster and somehow hit the slide release or the safety and it actually went off,” Guadalupe County Sgt. Donny White said.
The gun was a 9 mm Smith & Wesson, White said.
Unless this was an EXTREMELY defective S&W, then it didn't "go off" because he hit the slide release or the safety. Something contacted the trigger. Also, wouldn't the slide be in battery before he started to re-holster? So the "slide release" part really makes no sense. Hopefully this LEO was just badly misquoted.
I'm wondering whether this might have been an IDPA or USPSA event. I know my IDPA club really stresses safety when reholstering your loaded weapon, since there is zero concern about timing on that part.

That's a heck of an employee. Stopped the bleeding within minutes. What did he do? Put a tourniquet on it? I might have just handed the guy a first aid kit and said good luck.
I'm going with a grazing wound. Otherwise, I don't think the shootee would be in good spirits.

It hurts just reading about it. Good spirits? After shooting off one of his testicles? My goodness. I would be kind of bummed out.

Yeah. Morphine will do that for you.

Reminds me of the two buddies out hunting one day when one stopped to answer natures call and was promptly bitten by a snake. His buddy ran back to town to summon the doctor who was tied up delivering a baby and could not attend to the snake bite. The doctor gave the buddy detailed instructions on how to lance and "extract" venom from the wound. The buddy raced back to his stricken friend with the doctor's instructions. When he arrived the wounded friend asked, "what did the doctor say?" His buddy calmly told him that the doctor said you are going to die.

I am a member of McQueeney Gun Club and was there yesterday. The other unfortunate result of this incident is the RO told me that drawing from holster is prohibited for the foreseeable future. This really bites as it was nice to be able to practice drawing from concealment there.

Front IWB (appendix) carry? Otherwise his leg would have been between the muzzle and the injured appendage.

Hard to shoot your testicle from another position.
Lucky he missed his femoral.
Another example of why I only carry hammer fired (
or striker control) guns AIWB.

I'm thinking yes, and that would explain why he was in such 'good spirits'.
IF you have to be shot, best for it to happen to parts of your anatomy that come in pairs.
What I am confused about...is the location of his 'holster', unless it was an appendix carry holster...it seems unlikely he would have shot himself where he did, unless the Testicle Fairly was especially good to him. Who knows.

Boy, and we thought "Glock leg" was bad. :-)
He apparently was using ball ammo.
