Sept. 1, 2015: A man posing with a gun and taking selfies was killed when the gun went off and struck him. Cathy Hernandez reports.
Cathy Hernandez is a moron. Guns don't just go off. Very bad reporting. The title should go something like this:
Sept. 1, 2015: An ignorant man trying to look like gangsta and taking selfies like a middle school tween, killed himself when he pointed a loaded pistol at his neck and squeezed the trigger.
She could of at least said he accidently shot himself. Saying the gun went off makes other ignorant people believe they actually do.

While it's a tragic loss of life, its also another case to be made for Darwinism.

He obviously had no clue about this gun or gun safety---family members said they found the gun just yesterday....Parenthetically, another reason for Israeli carry.

Two lessons here.
Never point a gun at something you do not intend to destroy.
Don't take selfies.
Sad deal for the family. They are the ones that will suffer the most for his carelessness.

Hate to be ugly but had that gun not had a round in the chamber, this guy would probably be out carrying this gun out in public putting others in danger with his ignorance. On that day, his ignorance and thuggish behavior cost him his life and fortunately not one of his children.
Ill keep carrying with a round in the chamber.

This is saying he thought the gun was "safe".
One of my friend's thought he may have confused which hand held the gun and which one held the camera and engaged the wrong finger.
Its really too bad gun safety is not taught in school.
I think liberal's feel teaching kids about gun safety, will encourage them to go get a gun and shoot someone. Liberals would prefer that kids learn about gun safety from their friends, from the TV or movies or maybe on the street.

Don't rule out suicide.
Pointing a gun at one's throat does not fit the normal pattern for gangsta selfies and is actually a very awkward thing to do.

Can you say DARWIN AWARD?
I notice that the author of the original article cited also stated that the gun "struck him." Also as if the gun did it of its own volition and it wasn't a bullet that did the fatal damage.

Good point. I had not thought of that.

I know this might be second nature to gun owners, but maybe there needs to be a campaign or public service announcement to educate the public that that first rule of gun safety is to treat every gun as if it is always loaded. The 2nd message might be to educate the public that guns are inanimate objects that do not have the ability to fire a bullet on its own.
Just my $0.02 worth which is much less purchasing power everyday as the capital markets crater

How many "Driving Drunk is Bad" commercials do you see on any given day? What about "Smoking Kills" commercials? "Wear your seat belts!" "Don't water your lawn when the sun is out!"
It doesn't matter how many PSA's they run, stupid is gonna continue to be stupid.
