It's pretty easy if you accidently put your toe on the trigger.

I think I read on here, not too long ago, that many shotguns are not drop safe and that they might go off if they're dropped on the buttstock.

I dropped my Langdon Tactical Beretta Centurion and when I went pick it up it was in the single action position. It was kind of scary. Didn’t scare the gun and mark it up at all. The gun just hit so hard it threw the hammer back.

Yeah, muzzle down is the best way to carry long guns. While I haven't witnessed it myself, I know several people who have seen people die due to dropping a "muzzle up" shotgun... and have read accounts that go back to the frontier days of the same.

As for shotguns, I was taught to always keep those in "cruiser ready" mode: the tube fully charged, but no shell in the chamber.

Caution my previous post that resurrected this Darwin Tread is missing in action. It may have been removed or a glitch occurred. Two previous posts referred to it, so it was visible at some point.
