Why We Have Rule #3

#1

Post by Excaliber »

Those who aren't sure if Rule #3 (keep your finger outside the trigger guard until you're on target and have made a decision to fire) is really necessary should take a moment to review this extremely short video clip.

Despite the scoffing from some "experts", you can see for yourself whether involuntary hand clenching due to loss of balance happens or not, and whether or not the force involved is sufficient to cause an ND.

Yeah, the camera guy is laughing up a storm. Call me a spoil sport, but I didn't find that even remotely amusing.

Okay - Spoil Sport! ;-)

I agree. All of the shooting videos that I see of people getting startled or hurt by unexpected recoil are not funny at all. IMO, these are the morons that the anti-gun people use as stereotypes for gun owners.

Was that a "no sissy switch" Glock with an evil "assault clip"?

My pleasure.

Discussions are interesting but inconclusive.

A video like this tends to clarify things in a way words never will.

Double discharge too. On at trip on the way down & the other on ground impact. That was not at all funny.

The cameraman wouldn't have been laughing if he'd stopped one of those rounds.

I think the video more properly illustrates why we have more than one rule.

The reason this was an "oops" instead of a "OMG!" was that he was at least obeying rule #2 and perhaps rules #1 and 4. There is more than one rule so as to provide a back up when we inadvertently botch one of them. I think most accidents do not have a single factor -- there is usually series of factors, of which one becomes the straw that broke the camel's back. The trigger finger rule is a biggie, and if we could be absolutely positive that we could follow it all the time, we would not need any of the others. But we're human, we can't be absolutely perfect, so we do need some redundancy.

The pistolero in the video should probably also review some basic life rules, like "look where you are going." ;-)
