East Texas teen kidnapped at church

An East Texas family has a lot to be thankful for this holiday.
Their 13-year old daughter was found safe after being kidnapped during church services.
It happened around 7:30 Thursday night at a church on Gilmer Road in Longview.
Police say 26 year old Samuel Reyna Morin and 25 year old Samuel Ivan Morin took the girl at gunpoint.
She was found about 15 minutes later and both men were arrested.
They're both charged with aggravated kidnapping, which is a first degree felony.
The parents told police Samuel Reyna Morin had made several romantic advances toward their daughter, and they repeatedly told him to stay away.
Of course, it might be something in the Longview water supply (you
have to see the mug shot!):

Suspected drunk driver accused of pointing gun at officers

A Longview man is accused of pointing a gun at police.
Just before 2:00am, two Longview policemen had pulled over a suspected drunk driver when they noticed a car slow down as it passed the officers on McCann Road. One of the officers saw the driver of that car holding a gun and pointing it at the officers.
Police stopped the car and arrested the driver, Thomas Stuve, Jr., 25, of Longview. Officers say Stuve was drunk. They took the gun from him. Stuve didn't tell officers why he pointed the gun at them, and refused to talk to investigators. Stuve was booked into the Gregg County Jail.
No one was hurt.

We lived there for 6 years- saw a definite increase in crime. Its not the "small" town that folks think of anymore. We shot at matches with some of the local LEO-always somthing to hear about.

Let's read between the lines here:
Their 13-year old daughter was found safe after being kidnapped during church services.
Police say 26 year old Samuel Reyna Morin and 25 year old Samuel Ivan Morin took the girl at gunpoint.
The parents told police Samuel Reyna Morin had made several romantic advances toward their daughter, and they repeatedly told him to stay away.
Are they saying that these guys entered the church with weapons and abducted the girl by threat of force? That seems to be the scenario, but it doesn't explicitly say so.
P.S.: That seems to be exactly what happened. The men entered the church and had a physical altercation with the girl's father. One of them produced a weapon, and they abducted the girl.

Let us pray that these predators enjoy many years in the resort spa in Huntsville, and don't get some plea bargain and probation deal.
A 26-year-old man had made "romantic advances" toward a 13-year-old girl? That is what they used to call an indecent proposal. What can a parent do when something like that happens, except to tell the scum that if you ever see him again, you will ... his sorry ... to ...? (We all know restraining orders are worse than useless.)
Is suggesting an illicit relationship a crime? I'm not clear on the "attempted" stuff.

Mind you, I'm a regular church goer, but if you're serious, you should be able to come up with a lot better reasons than this one. You are probably, for instance, far more likely to be shot in a supermarket, gas station,
a toy store, a liquor store parking lot, a bar, movie theatre, a music concert, or a public park, among other locations, than inside a church. Violence in churches, particularly
during services, does occur; but I am certain that if you compare the number of incidents inside a church to number outside, you'll find that church incidents are a tiny fraction of the total number of incidents. The main reason we (who attend church) worry about such things, and consequently carry our guns in church, is that such events tend toward the spectacular, with multiple victims. You can't prevent a psycho from walking into a church with mayhem on his mind (just as it would be equally difficult to prevent it at
any venue where a large number of people are congregated). The simple logistics prevent it. But you
can predict how you will react in such a scenario and be mentally prepared and armed in the unlikely event that it happens -
exactly as you would before entering a supermarket, gas station, a toy store, a liquor store parking lot, a bar, movie theatre, a music concert, or a public park.
Are you going to avoid all of
those places too?
If you want to avoid attending church for other reasons, that is between you and your conscience (and God). But it seems to me that your avoidance can be better rationalized from theological or other social perspectives rather than one of fear of potential danger to your person inside of churches. But that's just me, and please don't take this as an attack on your beliefs. Believe whatever you want. I'm merely trying to point out that the logic of avoiding church for safety reasons doesn't hold up.

Well said.

I would also point out that this incident had nothing to do with being in church. The scum were apparently stalking the girl and her family. They could more easily have snatched her off the street while she was walking to school, or something like that.
Also, no one was seriously hurt in this incident.
I don't want to write a lengthy treatise on church security, but I have been in churches where a stranger or a known member of the congregation who was acting oddly would at least have been detected at the door. In some churches with small congregations, ushers make a point of greeting strangers, and some will not allow anyone in after the service has started.

In some third world countries such behavior is not only accepted but encouraged. One must wonder just where these men are from and their immigration status.

Judging from the mug-shot I can understand why he thought it was necessary to use a gun to obtain a girlfriend.

I live pretty close to where the incident took place. Until the last year or so I have never been the least bit nervous about being out and about in Longview at any time of the day or night and never locked my doors when I was home. Seems to be a lot of mischief going on here these days and now all the doors stay locked ALL the time and the pistola goes with me to and from the bike or truck every time I leave home. Still not that nervous but am always prepared for whatever comes up (at least I think I'm prepared). Plastic should be here soon and then will be more prepared.
