Press check leads to (almost) empty gun!

So that others may learn.

Some better than others.

I am not a pilot...but my little brother is. He has often told me "Flying is all about... an equal number of take-offs and landings"
Spartans ask not how many, but where!

Even better is a landing after which you can still use the airplane without a trip to the maintenance hangar.

Except for some space craft there are always as many landings as takeoffs, some landings are just a little harder than than others.

I carry an XD on duty & always press check.

I was showing my XD .45 to my 79yo father. I pointed it at a masonry wall, unloaded & cleared the gun, slide forward & dry fire (my father wouldn't know what to do with a slide locked gun) and handed it to him to examine. It was in his hand ~10 seconds when I noticed the LCI was UP! I snatched the gun from his hand so quickly it scared him, press checked & found an empty chamber.

It was 48 hours since the last field strip/cleaning & a small piece of metal was lodged under the LCI making it appear it was loaded.

Never again will I trust the LCI 100% for either condition.

Every take off is optional, but every landing is mandatory.
The right to bear arms shall NOT be infringed.

Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.

Until that fails. Anything mechanical can fail. So can anything human.
Kimbers have a non-mechanical loaded chamber indicator in the way of a small visible access on top of the barrel that allows you to see the round in the chamber.

And I still do a press check everytime I holster up my Kimber.... but some have called me paranoid....
Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.
