Can you elaborate a little? Why were they upset with you? It's not like you were suggesting it was a good idea???Brian Mobley wrote:On one of these rides we stopped for dinner with a couple of other officers and I mentioned how easy it would be to put orange tape or orange paint on the end of a real gun. The response was not very nice, in fact they were not happy with me at all.

Sounds like the thought had never occurred to them, before...terryg wrote:Can you elaborate a little? Why were they upset with you? Re: Stupid Kids
Actually I believe they have thought of it happening and they realize just like we do (CHLer's I mean) that it is a no win situation. I would venture a guess that if a person pulled a gun on me with an orange tip in a threatning manner that by the time I realized it was "fake" I would have already fired upon them. of course this has a lot to do with when, where and what time of day like in a park where kids are playing or at 200am at the local C-store.terryg wrote:Can you elaborate a little? Re: Stupid Kids
Necro post I know . . . but I have a CAR15 airsoft rifle that looks & weighs real & does not have an orange tip on it.
I'd hate to see what happened if someone pointed my rifle at someone else.

Yeah, that's me. I was dressed in my Vietnam era web gear carrying my airsoft rifle. All the gear is correct & 50 yrs old at the time of the picture. The camo/boots/boonie/rifle are new but correct styling for the period, except the boots are just a lil more modern.Pecos wrote:LAYGO: Is that you in the picture?? It's also what my Father would wear while on patrol with LRRP/Rangers.

Negative, it's tiger stripe. I can't remember the specific pattern, but it is a legit pattern, just brand new.RogueUSMC wrote:that looks like Brit camo...

Re: Stupid Kids
The pattern reminded me of when we got our hands on Brit MOPP gear back in the Gulf War...it was lighter and didn't make a mess of ya with the charcoal. The pattern on the MOPP gear was alot like the pattern you have on.

Very true. I don't know the difference and would have reacted the same way.Bob in Big D wrote:Those stupid kids were very lucky you knew the difference between an airgun and real gun........not everyone does.
If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you carry a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

Re: Stupid Kids
I played airsoft for a while and always wanted realistic looking guns because I played realistic scenarios. Now I use my airsoft guns for safe training since my ranges don't allow drawing from a holster etc. It's nearly impossible to tell the difference unless you're right up close and as a result they've always been treated as real firearms. If one were pointed at me without the orange tip I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Most of the time, even when playing on an private property, the police were alerted that we were using realistic airsoft replicas as you can never be too safe.
As an example this is my Tokyo Marui Glock 26 which has no orange tip.
I give the OP huge props for seeing the orange tip, not drawing and for getting the licence plate.

Re: Stupid Kids
Not too sure what I may have done....my first thought would be to slam on the brakes to get out of the line of fire and pull my weapon. However, after seeing what could be an AR type weapon, I also would know I was outgunned. Calling the police was a good thing to do.

Re: Stupid Kids
An Airsoft weapon could potentially seriously injure a cyclist (bicycle or motorcycle) or even cause a fatality.paulhailes wrote:I had a similar situation happen to a friend of mine, he was out on a bike ride managed to anger some kids in a truck and they pointed an airsoft pistol at him, he thought it was real at the time though and called the police. Some of his friends gave him a hard time saying it was just an airsoft gun, I told him it doesn't matter, at the time you thought it was real and thats all that matters.
I am not discounting the damage an airsoft pistol can do, just pointing out how bad things can get when people are just messing around.
In the case of an automobile motorist, just the mere distraction of a possible weapon can generate a serious accident. What might have happened if a totally unsuspecting driver was hit by one through an open window?
I can go on and on...But I won't.
