Re: TX: Uncle taught 9 yo how to rack the slide
I was shooting pistols before I was 9. As a matter of fact at age of 8 every firearm in the house and all ammo was in my childhood bedroom closet.
THE DIFFERENCE: I was first taught gun safety, respect for firearms, and their role as tools, not toys.

Re: TX: Uncle taught 9 yo how to rack the slide
My kids learned how to rack slides and also how to disassemble and reassemble various firearms before they were 9. They also learned the gun safety rules and never once failed to clear a gun themselves before handling it even if I had cleared it in front of them 2 seconds previously.
They were a great help in cleaning sessions. I say "were" cause they're pretty much grown up now.
