Magnets on Guns

I love the idea of a magnet pistol mount under a desk, cabinet, etc. But I'm concerned the magnet will magnetize the handgun... attracting metal shavings all over it. Will that happen?

I can’t answer for guns, but I do have a Leatherman multitool and several screwdrivers, that because I kept them on a magnetized tool holder, have become magnetized. They are handy to pick up screws etc.. but, as stated metal shavings do accumulate.
That is why I haven’t mounted a magnet for my guns. I don’t know if it would become an issue, but I’m not willing to risk it. JMHO

I'm getting one, read an article about a guy coming home to find someone had broken in. He didn't know if the bad guy had found one of his guns in an end table. Thinking about this one

I've used magnetic mounts for guns for many years with no issues.

I don't know if they've become slightly magnetized or not because I keep my guns out of piles of metal shavings.....

On a more serious note they are great for keeping a readily accessible weapon close by and mounted in a place almost no one would ever think to look.

Out of curiousity I took a gun that has been on a magnetic mount for years and checked it with a tiny 3/8 x 4 wood screw. It didn't hold or attract the screw at all.

I've taken an old cheap nylon holster (we all have a bunch laying around somewhere) and removed the belt clip and then screwed it under a desk. Or, you can make a simple bracket and then clip the holster on to it just like your belt. Works great and doesn't cost anything. Just a thought.
