Parkerized Springfield 1911 Defender
I purchased captioned firearm a week or so ago new. Have not shot it yet but will next week. I put a pretty good layer of oil on the slide and let it dry 18 hours or so. I have to say after handling it several times the slide really does not look good. Is this common with this type of finish? The slide looks smudged after handling. I read where some put a coat of grease on the slide and bake it in the oven. I am not going to do that. As long as this finish holds up to rust I am happy. It definitely not a BBQ gun. Just could not beat the price and do not have to worry about a few scratches and such.

I have the same manufacture in the 5" version. It's not my carry weapon, but it have seen any issues with my finish. I do keep it lubed when stored.
