Unicorn pistol

#1

Post by LDB415 »

I'd like to have a pistol about the size of a Glock 19 in profile but no more than 1 inch thick at it's widest point. Prefer 9mm but open to others. Anyone know of anything remotely approaching that size?

The Ruger Security 9 is listed at 1.02". Very similar to a G19 in size but much lower in cost. I picked one up a little while back and while I'm not crazy about it's curb appeal I've been pleased with it's reliability and accuracy.

Thanks. I'll do some research on that one. Anyone else with suggestions? The more the better.

Some of the kimber 1911 9mm guns might fit. The P365 might come close, but the barrel isn't 4".

I may go check out the P365. I don't have to have a 4" barrel. I want very thin but don't want to go down to a Kel-Tec size or similar.

P365 is decent. I had fun shooting my new one on wednesday. If you haven't tried a M&P Shield 2.0, I would definitely recommend that as well.

The Kahr CT9 may also be worth a look if you're ok with a single stack (8+1). I would consider it sized between a 365 and the G19 and it's only .9" wide.

I think 7+1 capacity is my minimum. Other than that I don't have any deal breakers I can think of. I appreciate the suggestions for what to research.

The Sig P365 is going to be a decent bit smaller than a G19. Little small for my hands. If that doesn't bother you, it meets everything else with being exactly 1" wide/thick, and carries 10 rounds of 9mm. Shoots well, I could put all 10 rounds through a space between a quarter and a half-dollar even with it being small (and a rental shooting reloaded range ammo). A good many of your other G19 sized options are all going to be roughly the same width, around 1.3" wide/thick.

Most of the reputable manufacturers’ single-stack 9mms would fit your requirements. They each measure their guns’ widths a little differently from the others, but this should give you an idea.

Glock 43 - .87” wide at the slide.
Springfield XDS 9 - .9” wide at the grips.
S&W Shield 9mm - .95” wide at the frame.
Sig 938 - 1.1” overall width
Sig P365 - 1.0” overall width.

I carry the G43 with Taran Tactical +3 mag bases. In my younger years I’ve carried large pistols concealed (with a Para 14-45 being the largest I’ve used for EDC. That double stack 45 was heavy and big) but even my G29 feels large for EDC now. I’ve settled into carrying smaller 9’s for EDC.

SCCY light weight dbl stack 9 mm 10+1. I have 2 and both have fired everything I have put in them. The mags use the same diameter and feed lip arrangement as my ruger P85 ,so with 1 extra notch mags are interchangeable
