As far as I know, it must be 26” over all length or over to put a vertical grip on the pistol. If your on fb, join a group called AR15 Snob Free. Wonderful groups with tons of advice and no drama. Strictly about the AR platform and no non sense about politics or religion etc. highly reccomended

Not right now.

But there is a risk that Trump's ATF may decide in the future to reclassify vertical grips as attack submarines or something similarly inane and confiscate them all. Like they did with bump stocks where they are saying that a plastic stocks which is incapable of firing a bullet is suddenly a machine gun. Neither logic nor due process restricts our federal government.

A VFG on a pistol rail produces an Any Other Weapon, which must be registered.

The bigger issue to me is that the proliferation of .300 Blackout "pistols" makes .308 M2 AP bullets possible to load in a pistol caliber. The guy who sold Steven Paddock 7.62x51 AP loads is now being prosecuted by the ATF.

Probably one of the most argued over topics...

If the pistol’s over all length is greater than 26” then go for it. But remember your muzzle device does not add to that length unless permanently attached ( ie pinned and welded). Also if your “brace” is collapsible, it is measured from the collapsed position.
