Interesting quote: Ryan Cleckner, a former U.S. Army Ranger sniper who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and wrote the authoritative “Long Range Shooting Handbook,” called the feat an “incredible” accomplishment, one that owes as much if not more to the spotter’s expertise than the shooter's skill.
“The spotter would have had to successfully calculate five factors: distance, wind, atmospheric conditions and the speed of the earth’s rotation at their latitude,” Cleckner told Fox News. Emphasis mine.

Just saw this infographic. I can't verify the accuracy of the data, but wow.
Wow. I can't even get half of that on Battlefield 4.

just incredible that anyone is able to dope the shot to this degree of accuracy.
the graphics really helped me to help someone understand just how much physics are involved.
bad guy probably just all of the sudden fell over

Lots of information in that video. Kind of long, but it certainly gives me an appreciation of what it took for the team (shooter and spotter) working together to make that shot. Certainly a lot of finely tuned skills and equipment, but more than a smidgen of luck, I suspect. My hat is off to that team!

I'm not sure how much energy was left in the round that hit him at that distance, but whatever that .50 BMG hit might have just exploded and then whatever remained just fell over. I can only imagine what anyone standing next to or near him thought in the next second or two.
They probably never heard the shot even a few seconds later at that distance.
