I need some help buying a new gun. Financial help is always good, but what I would like is opinions. I am being allowed to buy a gun to celebrate new baby on the way, also it will be the last for a while with diapers and double day care costs. Don't get me wrong, I want a new gun, but I don't know whether I want something serious or fun.

The front runners are a Glock 19 or a single action revolver.

Revolver - Have a Taurus snub, but that's it.

Centerfire semi auto - Have 2 1911 style

Rimfire semi auto - check

Rimfire rifle - check

Centerfire bolt rifle - check. Nothing scoped, but I don't hunt yet so not much need for a scope.

Centerfire semi auto rifle - check. Have a few evil guns.

Black powder - None

Single action revolver - none

Shotgun - none. I need one just don't want one. not other reason.

Milsurp - check. Mausers, mosins, sks's.

I don't have a large collection and I do want more, I guess since I want them all I can't just pick one.

My budget is around $500 Maybe a little more for sights and leather if I go with the Glock.

So, now its your turn. Buy me a gun! :D

If you want to carry it get the Glock 19. If you want to have fun get a single action revolver.
Every collection needs at least one cowboy gun. :D

Hence my delima(sp? too lazy too check). I have carry guns and fun guns ( the evil one, sks, milsurps).

Thank God that I'm in Texas and have the fortune of having so many choices. If I were in California this would be easy. Carry, self defense, and most anything fun would be out. A single shot bolt action rifle would be about my only choice.

If you're looking at the Glock 19, you may also consider looking at the XD 9 4" Service. I was dead set on a Glock, but ended up with the XD.

Buying a Glock as your last gun for a while is like having your sister be the dancer at a bachelor party. :P

For the love of God man, come to your senses.

New Vaquero

Old Model Blackhawk

Rig from El Paso Saddelry (sp?)

Either one is my suggestion.

In that case it's a good thing that I'm an only child. :P

"You might be a redneck..."

GET THE GLOCK! Even more emphasis on that if you dont already have one. I carry the 23 myself (the compact .40), and I love it to death. Its my second Glock to date, both of which were tough as nails and more reliable than I could ask. Between the two ive put probably 3000 rounds through them, and NEVER had a single jam or failure to fire, or feed, or eject. Correction-ive had a few failures to fire with Sellier and Bellot ammo in my .357 sig-which is common in that caliber, and its because Sellier and Bellot had some hard primers (about 1-2 per 50) . Other than that, ive never had a problem. And no problems that had to do with the gun.

I can't belive you don't have a Glock 19!!
I thought it was a requirement that all CHL's have one on their list of handguns.??

Check the depth of the primer's on that Sillier & Bellot ammo, I have seen several handguns including one of my Sig's get light hits on that ammo and it seems that the primers are set deep.

I got my first glock (G26) a month ago, and couldn't be more happy. Put around 300 rounds through it without a single problem. I'd heard all the GLOCK haters reasons why they are bad, but decided to get one anyway, and now I can tell you that they are wrong. They are all around great guns. Affordable, Simple, Accurate and Problem Free.

If you get the Glock, I won't be able to talk to you any more.

And a Glock 19 at that. If you have to get your sister to dance at your bachelor party, I mean buy a Glock, at least get the 34 or 17.

I am leaning more to getting the single action revolver, unless I can find a way to weasle both guns.

I have nothing against Glocks. I even has a g23 a while back. They're great guns and they will work everytime, but they're boring. I'm a 1911 guy at heart. I mean with a 1911 if you don't like the looks you can change grips. Grips also function to completely change feel. There is something to being able to customize your gun on a whim. With a glock, what can you customize? Aside from a couple of trigger connectors, and having slide refinished, there just isn't much, but they do work as intended everytime.

If both guns aren't in the cards, then the Glock will probably win out due to the cost of ammo.

Get a Beret .50 cal before they get banned. That would be sweet, and then you could have a "TexasCHLforum.com come shoot my .50 cal" day.

Well I've made my decision. I'm Not going to buy a new gun. Not at this time. I have instead decided to use the money that was alloted for a gun on ammo, reloading components for current guns, and training.

It was a difficult decision, but in the end it came down to not really being able to decide between a single action and the Glock. I can never have too much ammo. Also, I have had no "formal" training and it is high time I rectify that.

Thanks for all the help and opinions.

BTW, the Barett is just a liiitle out of the price range.

That was a very wise decision... More "bang bang" and training makes up for the hardware aquisition agenda... 8)

A Barrett .50 has been on my list for a few years...

It would be nice to be able to shoot that thing one day at PSC...I'm not sure they like artillery like that being used...
