Visited a facility this morning that had an obviously invalid sign posted. The English-only wording was something like 'Texas law prohibits hand guns in this building' with a gun-buster image to the side. The size and style of the sign were a pretty obvious imitation of a 30.06 or 30.07 sign. In fact, if the wording had been correct and in English and Spanish, it would probably have been a valid sign.

I paused for about 2 seconds as I reached for the door handle but then ignored the sign. I think most LTC holders would do the same thing. I know there were several other people there who have their LTC; I just don't know whether they were carrying or not.

My problem is that if I report this location and it is posted on this site, the management might recognize the fact that they paid good money for a worthless sign and replace it with a valid 30.06 sign. This would not be good for me as I might very well have reason to visit the facility again in the future.

Opinions on what I ought to do?

What type of "facility" was this building?

Is it one where the carrying of a handgun is indeed already illegal under Texas law? Such as a racetrack, etc? If so, then I could see some legitimacy to their sign that reads:

'Texas law prohibits hand guns in this building"

Letting them know they have an invalid sign will most likely result in them posting a valid one. What they don't know won't hurt them. If informed and they do properly post it makes it an unsafe place.

Now it's another issue whether or not you would want to do business with them because they have made their intentions known.

I think this is a very important question. I sometimes forget that if a location is already a prohibited place in terms of carry, then they don't have to post "proper" signs, or even post signs at all. If the location in question is one of those places, then they may have posted that sign as a courtesy, and I would take it as such.

If it's not a prohibited place, then I wholeheartedly agree with everyone else. Don't stir the pot. Licensees will generally know it's not a valid posting and disregard it.

Even if you are in the "I'm not doing business with them anyway since they don't want guns" camp, don't endanger the lives of others by doing anything that might cause the owner to post a compliant sign and turn the place into a free fire zone.
