Glock 43 Recoil vs Glock 19

#1

Post by Teamless »

My wife loves her G-19, but wants something a bit smaller to carry in her purse (please don't change the subject to talk her into on-body carry...... Baby steps!)

I have given her a couple of choices, and both, she felt were too "snappy" vs her Glock 19.
Walter CCP 9mm
SW M&P Shield 9mm

She does haves Kimber Solo, which is snappy, but with the weight of it, it doesn't seem to be as snappy as the CCP or Shield is.
And while she likes the Solo, she has a difficult time racking the slide, and if I am going to get her to carry, it is up to me to find something I feel she will actually carry and not resist too much.

So while she loves her Glock, I thought the Glock 43 could be a good compromise. But I don't (yet?) own one, and am interested in your thoughts on recoil from the G19 to the G43.

So, if you have shot both of these, specifically at the same time to compare the recoil of the G43 vs G19, I would appreciate your comments on how much worse (or better?) the G43 recoil is vs the G19.

Thanks

Having owned a G43 and a current owner of a 19, I would say that the 43 is much more snappier. I would say its in about the same ballpark as the XDS if you ever shot that. I would imagine that the shield being slightly larger and heavier would have less recoil than the G43.

Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps :txflag:

My wife and I shot both the G43 and G19 last weekend. The G19 was too big for her hands. She liked the G43 better. She didn't have any problems putting 50 rounds or so through it, and it has been a while since she shot last. No issue for her with recoil.

My wife owns a 19 and a 43. She likes to shoot her 19, but she carries her 43. And she doesn't find it that hard to shoot, either.

My wife purse carries also and has a CC purse with a dedicated pocket for carry. She was carrying a Shield but it is a little to square for easy draw. We picked up a LC9S that draws really smooth because of the rounded corners. I would think any Glock would have the same issues as the Shield with purse carry. Of course this would depend on the individual purse design. Just didn't work for us.

What is your wife's experience level?

If she only shoots once every 3 or 4 months, would taking her to the range more often get her more comfortable with the recoil?

This last weekend I shot the Shield back to back with the Glock 42 (.380 sub compact) and the 42 is significantly less recoil than the 9 shield. Is the Glock 42 out of the question?

I'm a women with small hands and have the glock 43. It is a bit snappy but still very easy to handle. I have no problem with the slide on it. Your wife will probably do just fine with it. Like I said just probably a little more snappy then her glock 19.

I experience the Glock 43 as having a little more recoil than the Shield. For me the Shield is one of the lightest single stack recoil guns. I carry a Glock 19 - certainly is a difference.

I also find the shield to be extremely soft recoiling for such a small package. I briefly had a glock42 and couldnt shoot it worth a darn and it had every bit the felt recoil as the shield did but with a smaller caliber.

Both my wife and I have G43. She also has gen4 G19 and I just bought a slightly used gen3 G19.

While she likes the feel of G19, she just couldn't carry it comfortably, thus she went with G43 for carry.

G43 is snappier, no question about that, but she can finish a mild 100 rd session without any problems.
For me however, G43 likes to bite my index finger after 50 rds, probably because my yeti hands.

Incidentally, we both shoot better with the 43. Maybe it's because we intentionally focus more, it's still relatively new addition to both of us.

FWIW, we carry 124gr Speer gold dots in the G43, 147gr federal in G19.

Definitely great carry piece.

My wife and youngest (and I) spent some time shooting the 43 and CCP. We all thought the CCP was the softer shooting gun. Wife got a CCP for Christmas and loves it.

The only thing I don't like about the CCP is needing a tool to take the slide off... Small quip. Like the gun very much.
