Blackhawk Serpa Holster
I'm curious if anyone knows which blackhawk holsters would fit the H&K VP9 ? Was thinking about getting a serpa holster for open carry for after Jan 1st. But looking at their site, its not a listed model. Anyone found a blackhaw holster that would work, or something very similar they might suggest ?

Re: Blackhawk Serpa Holster
I tend to want any holster I get to be one that I can train with. More and more folks that allow drawing from holster in training will not allow Serpa or Serpa type holsters in their classes due to some unintentional discharges that a few folks have had. I have therefore relegated my Serpa holsters to use with my NLT SIRT pistols.
You might take a look at the Safariland GLS and ALS holsters that are available. They have different "locks" that hold the gun in the holster that are not manipulated with the trigger finger. I have heard a lot of good things about them.
Best of Luck.

Re: Blackhawk Serpa Holster
I'm aware of the perceived issues with Serpa type holsters... And I disregard this perception, because the ND/UD with the holsters I believe were caused by improper use, not improper design. Not really a fan of the look of the Safariland holsters that I've seen so far...Middle Age Russ wrote:I tend to want any holster I get to be one that I can train with. Re: Blackhawk Serpa Holster
I can see how easily an ND could result from using a Serpa since you press the release with your trigger finger. I have an ALS, which I've never used for carrying other than around the house and when working out in my field, and like the way it works. Very natural to unlock, much like flipping a 1911 safety off. Only thing I don't like about it is that even using the belt loops instead of the paddle that I got with mine, it sticks out too far. I keep bumping it into things. That would probably stop happening if I wear it enough to get use to it.

Are you discussing the "Tex Grebner" holster?
At this point, I'm not entirely certain it was the holster at fault or ah, pilot error at fault...?

Re: Blackhawk Serpa Holster
The Serpa holsters work well as designed, and I enjoyed using mine until the folks conducting classes disallowed the use of them. I understand their reasoning that the design of the release utilizing the trigger finger is not optimum, but also feel the incidents were user error. That said, I modified them for use with my SIRT pistols so that deactivating the catch is not required. This way I don't reinforce a habit that isn't needed on any of my other holsters.

Re: Blackhawk Serpa Holster
I have a Safariland GLS for my Glock 17. While I'm not 100% convinced that it is better to make 1 holster that can be adjusted to many different guns, it happens to work just fine for mine, and the position and action of the release trigger ensures that I won't ever confuse booger hook with release finger, and the release trigger with the gun's trigger. The downside is that a brand/model-dedicated holster might have a little bit better fit.

Re: Blackhawk Serpa Holster
I would really like to find a serpa holster that fits my VP9, I'd like to have the paddle and drop leg options for open carry. Drop leg mostly for hiking/backpacking and if/when I ever get the opportunity to go hunting somewhere.
Does anyone know if the P30 holster would fit it ? I've never personally seen a P30, not sure the size comparison but I know they look very similar.
