I own a lot of guns but the one i never bought was a like a desert eagle in 50 cal. I was actually thinking about the SW 500 with the 6.5 barrel. Anyone got experience with either. Im sure it depends on what you want but it seems like the SW500 is better.

I have put at least 2000 rounds through model 29 (44Mag) and 57 (41Mag) S&W's and Ruger Super Blackhawks's, but nothing larger.

It depends on what you need. There isn't much that lives in North America that needs anything near the power of the 500 S&W. And at $2 a round, very few things cost as much to feed or kick quite so hard.

I have little use for anything more than a 44 S&W Magnum. Any more and a rifle is far more: more power, more accurate, more economical, more preserving of my precious body. I would just buy a 300 Win Mag and call it a day. YMMV

Nope. Don't need it. Like ShootDontTalk said, I have little ned for a pistol more powerful than a .44 magnum. If more power is required, then I need a rifle.

I have a 500. It is expensive to shoot even non-magnum loads. It can also be painful. I make some excursions to the wilderness of Alaska on occasion is my reason to own but it's also a great conversation piece

If my .45 isn't enough, then I'm in a heap of trouble. Granted whenever I visit bear country, I lean towards the Ruger Super Blackhawk .44mag. Anything more than that requires a rifle in my book. Played with a S&W 500, but it wasn't any fun. It was awesome watching fire bricks pop, but the pain negated the fun factor.

Go with a .44, or carry a shotgun or rifle!

well i dont NEED as many guns as i have. most people dont have a useful purpose for more then a few. Its more of somthing i want.Most people that are collectors dont buy based on need.

True, but I don't operate out of collecting. Every one of my weapons has a unique purpose. Every one of my handguns, rifles, and shotguns is a tool. I've used or carried every one of my guns so far this June, except for my bird hunting shotguns, simply because we are out of season. If I'm not using, needing, or carrying it, then it's not much use.

I shot my brothers when Smith & Wesson finally delivered it after a very long wait. Ammo was hard to get back then. I don't remember what bullet weights we were shooting but it was extremely fun until we ran out which was exactly 40 rounds. Very versatile revolver with ammo weights running high 200's to around 700 grains. Lighter loads will be your friend when practicing or plinking. I have exactly no experience with the DE 50...

I guess thanks for the lack of useful information from some people. Was just asking for opinions on which gun was better.

I kinda thought almost everyone answered your question. If it is what you want, and there is no rational explanation or articulable need for why you want it beyond what you wrote, then maybe you can clarify what you wanted us to tell you?

Better at what? Both are expensive, loud, heavy, and painful with virtually no usefulness which cannot be better fulfilled by better and less expensive alternatives. None of which should mean anything if you just want one. Go for it.

I only know one person with a Desert Eagle. His isn't even in .50, but it seems like it is always broken and he's sending it off for repair. We haven't been to the range together when it was in working order yet.
