Hello all,

Actually, it was a suicide. Someone went to Champion Firearms in College Station earlier today and rented a pistol to use at their in-house range. I heard that this person was an elderly wheelchair-bound male. He went to the range and then shot himself in the head. Champions shut down for the rest of the day, but will be back open tomorrow. Very sad...

Sad indeed. I was working a range last year when a person did the same thing.

Very selfish act.

Dang thats insane. TXI I couldnt imagine having to experience something like that. It one thing to be in the same building where it happens but you have to know the other guys that where there onthe firing line have to be freaking out.

Fortunately he was the only one on the line. I actually rented the gun to him. Even though he showed NO signs of depression or intent, It messed me up for a while, which bothered me in and of itself. As a cop I saw lots of dead people, and I even observed a guy shoot himself. In those situations you HAVE to go into mode and handle the case.

At the range, all we could do was secure the scene and call the police, so I had nothing to keep my mind busy; no role other than protect the scene until the police arrived.

With the help of several kind and generous people from THIS forum and prayer, I felt OK rather quickly, but it was BAD for a couple of days.

Sad all around.............

That is nuts...

If I see someone commit suicide right in front of me, it would scar me for life. Hope I don't have to experience anything like at the shooting range when I go

Exactly.
As you yourself found out, it can have a very bad effect on others not even remotely connected to the individual. But they think it only affects them.

If he did, they really failed him...Of course, it may be easy to hide intent, even from your closest friends and family...And they will be the ones really needing the help to get through this...

In this case, I am sure there would not have been too much anyone could have done to stop this from happening...

Thanks for the warm and kind thoughts everyone. I am well over it.

I was able to learn a little about this guy, and his ex-girlfriend came to see me. According to her, he had a tumor, and really messed up short term memory. He had been a small time director in Hollywood, but the memory issue caused him to not be able to direct. ( I confirmed the director status)

She had broken up with him, and she felt responsible. He didn't seem to have left the impression with her that he was all that choked up about it.

Life goes on.............

I've lost a relative and a good friend to gun suicide. Very unfortunate for all involved. I'm very glad to hear that you (TXI) have been able to move on.
