Afternoon everyone!

In my "old age" I find it difficult to pull the trigger of a Beretta 96. Only thing I've heard is that it has about a 10 to 12 lb pull. Is the newer 96A1 any easier to pull? The Beretta site didn't have any information on this.

My 1911 has about a 4 to 5 lb pull and is much easier to shoot.

Any ideas or suggestions on the 96?

I suspect you are talking about the first round fired with the hammer down. This IS a very heavy trigger. After the first round is fired or if you rack the slide for the first round, the pull should be around 3 lbs. I have a 92F (same gun in 9mm) that I really enjoy shooting.

Have you replaced the hammer spring with the "D" spring? It is the DAO weight hammer spring and makes that first, DA trigger pull much nicer.

I always do first shot by cocking hammer first. It is still hard to pull for succession shots. No, I haven't even considered modifying the trigger, etc. Am not a gunsmith. No gunsmiths in our area either. I have never tried to fire a SA without first cocking the hammer for the first shot.

And BTW, if you manually cock the hammer for the first round, all successive trigger pulls should be the same. Your SA/DA pistols will have a double action trigger pull on the first round unless you thumb the hammer. All successive shots are single action as the slide cocks the hammer for you. If you are feeling a difference, you definitely need to have someone check your pistol.

I purchased a 96A1 about a year ago and I like it so much that I have worked it into my rotation and carry it about 80% of the time. The double action trigger pull is very long and heavy. The first time I shot it I thought there was something wrong! Nope, that is just the way it is. Fantastic gun though in my opinion. I just practice that double action shot. Actually, I don't think it is a bad thing. In an event where I had to use it for defense, I imagine there will be a lot of adrenaline so a heavy pronounced trigger pull could prevent nervous fingers from discharging it before I mean to. Lots of practice and familiarity is the best solution IMO.

Guess I need to find another gun with lighter trigger pull! It's a no-brainer when I have to use both hands to pull trigger due to my arthritic trigger finger, etc.

BTW, no gunsmiths within 100 miles from here. Not worth the travel & weight...

There are other options in springs than the D spring.
