Morning everyone!

Thinking about getting a Ruger SR 1911 .45 ACP. Opinions? Experience with one? I like the easy racking, light trigger.

By all the reports I know of, they are fine pistols.

One of my coworker has had one for a while and loves it. After shooting his, another coworker just bought one.

I've seen some reports of the front sight breaking off, but it doesn't appear to be widespread. If I was in the market for a seventh 1911, I would buy one, probably the commander.

I have had mine since April of 2013 and have a few hundred rounds through it and no issues so far. I have heard of the front site shearing off issue as well but so far mine is still on

My best friend has had one since it came out and it's has functioned perfectly with all ammo. However, his front sight did break off. He has not returned it to Ruger yet. It has become a safe queen. I think he's planning on upgrading the sights anyway. He'd still buy it again though.

I love my SR1911 CMD my wife bought mine in Nov last year and have probably shot over 2000 rds through it. No problems with it feeding and ejecting... as mentioned about the front sight on mine have broken of twice... first time was with the original sight before Ruger changed it.. second was with the replacement sight... still think it was the holster i was using, sight was rubbing against it when holstering.... Ruger replaced the sights no charge...

its a fine weapon.... and its my carry pistol...

Small problem... It WON'T chamber a round even though it cocks ok. Ammo is correct. Same issue with both Ruger magazines that came with it.

It's depressing... :(

Any ideas on what the problem is or MY problem???

I know you said "the ammo is correct", but just to check, the pointy end of the bullet is pointing forward, right? Sorry - just had to ask. Sounds like some mechanical obstruction to the gun - if it were mine, it'd be on the way to Ruger without much thought about it. Have you tried manually putting a bullet in and seeing if you can see where it gets stuck?

FWIW, I bought my son a Commander sized SR1911 last winter, and he's put quite a number of rounds through it. He's had no problems with it -- he holsters it in a fully kydex (as opposed to a kydex-leather hybrid) and isn't rubbing the sights against anything - no problem with the sights getting loose, yet. His experience has even convinced me that, funds permitting sometime, I may add one of them to my menagerie.

I too was thinking of getting one. The one thing about Ruger though is that if the gun has a problem their customer service WILL fix it.

Have you field stripped the pistol and lubricated it?

I'm assuming it strips the top round from the mag and then hangs up before the round goes into the chamber. Will it finish chambering if you bump the back of the slide?

One other thing... make sure you're not "riding the slide" down. "Slingshot" the slide closed.

are u pulling the slide back and letting it slam forward or did u have slide locked back with slide lock and depress slide lock to let it go?

In your earlier post you commented on the easy racking slide,mine has always been pretty stiff still to this day after a few hundred rounds

Good point! Standard for a 5" .45 is a 16 pound spring. (18 for a commander).

are you slamming the mag in or being delicate with it

Do you have any friends that have 1911 mags ? If so see if you can borrow a couple and try them before you send it back to Ruger

Yes, I let the slide slam back. Mag is fully in (hit it back..lol). I haven't broke it down and re-lubed it. With my hands, I'd probably not be able to depress that spring... :( Maybe Ruger can check it out and re-lube it?? Not sure how long it was sitting at gun dealers before I got it.
