Looking for recommendations for a BUG gun. Looked on the Smith and Wesson website and was checking out the Airweights in .38 (J frames) Just wondering if anyone had any experience with these or if I should go with a small semi auto such as a Tomcat. Also needed to know what the difference was between the two models of Smith and Wesson Airweight revolvers. Some have a rouded portion around the hammer and some are notched out, just wondering what the importance of that was and what is better. I am currently looking at a S&W 442 in Black.

SW 642 or 442 would be an excellent choice. 38spl +P beats all the mouse caliber, 32acp, 380. 25acp etc.

I live in Friendswood and would be happy to let you shoot a S&W Mod. 37 (airweight) and a PPK. The only other BUG's I have are a Colt Officers ACP and a Glock 27, but you're welcome to shoot those as well. They just aren't pocket guns by a long shot!

The 642 would be great. I carry a Kel-Tec P3AT. I have several and all are great BUGs.

I would be real interested in trying out your S&W. I am currently trying to sell my Glock 27 since it never gets any range time (and to make room for my new pistol comin in) Let me know via PM next time you plan on hitting the range.

Third vote for the S&W 642.

Small enough and light enough for ankle or pocket carry, shoots a round that is controllable and not physically intimidating so you can actually practice with it, aluminum frame is heavy enough to withstand +P loads (other light alloys I question) and they're reasonably priced ie. $320 new.

Just can't miss with a Smith J frame. I will say there are so many older models out there that can be had at a good price, that I don't think I would buy a new one.

My $.02,
S&W airweight J frame .38 is a great gun and +P gold dots are a great load.
However it can look like you have a potato in your pocket.

Kel-Tec P32 or P3AT is a very light weight and thin gun, easy to carry easy to conceal. Kahr's are a little bigger and heavier.

You can't play golf with just one club. You can't go everyplace you need to go in sweat shorts and a ragged "T" shirt (but I try).

So, for concealed carry you need a wide selection of handguns and holsters(IWB,OWB, crossdraw, pocket, ankle, shoulder in leather, nylon, kydex and hybrid) butt packs, belly bands, smart carries, day planners.... Someone will come up with something I've neglected. I just provided this info to help you justify your purchases to the significant other. Oh and don't forget the "how many pairs of shoes she has" point.

If you see one you like get it. If it doesn't do everthing you need it to, just get another one.

I carry a SW 340PD (scandium j frame 357mag) in a Kramer pocket holster all the time and nobody has ever asked me if I was carrying a potato.

OE, I am glad I am not the only one that feels like that. :D

I have guns for shorts and untucked shirt, shorts and tucked shrirt, a gun for wearing a suit, a back up gun, a gun I carry when I go boating, it's raining gun, the list goes on and on....

How do you guys pack in a suit?

I've worn a suit (or something like a suit) exactly one time since I began carrying. I wore my springfield 1911 in and OWB belt holster. I didn't have any problems. Wearing a jacket that isn't too tight helps.

I've carried many different handguns over the years, including my favorite G19, but the 642 is my everything gun. At 15 ounces it just drops into a front pocket in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster and stays there unnoticed until needed. I usually use a SmartCarry for the Glocks. The 642 is great to shoot, and with Corbon 110 +P DPX ammo (about 1150 fps average out of a 642), I feel quite protected.

Milt Sparks IQM belt holster. It attaches to the belt with two double snaps and is solid as a rock. It's very handy when I'm going into and out of the courthouse. I sometimes use a Sparks 60TK in a suit, but not unless I don't have to take it off for most of the day.
