The wife and I were out browsing around today and stopped by Unique Guns in Waco and they had there M&P Shields for $419. So I bought one. I now own two of them, both in 9mm. I have one I carry daily. I love my Shield.

I thought about the .40 but I have always liked my 9mm and I also like the round. I'm 70 and have some problems with my hands so the 9mm I figure would be best for me anyway. That .40 however is a great round for sure.

I got my 2nd Shield a month or so ago on a black friday/cyber monday deal for $375 shipped from Palmetto. I took it to the range & did ok with it at about 15yds with Hornady FTX (making sure the def ammo works)! ;)

I love my .40, I did want the 9mm but they didn't have it. So I bought the 40 and feel in love with it. Enjoy.

I've had mine about 3 weeks now. It shoots pretty well, but I def need more practice with it. A big improvement in the way it feels in the hand when I added the Talon rubberized grips. Can't wait to shoot it again. Probably will hit the range tomorrow or Tuesday. Maybe try to put a couple hundred rounds through it.

I have fired both the .40 and the 9mm, and like them both. They're reliable, compact, easy to use with no surprises, light for everyday carry, and easy to conceal.

The 9mm is definitely easier to control in rapid fire.

I favor trigger characteristics that are as similar to those found on a good 1911 as possible, and even though the Shield has a completely different action type, a very satisfactory trigger pull can be achieved with the swap out of a few parts.

I've shot Shields that have been upgraded with the APEX trigger kits, and they definitely make a difference in smoothing out the stock trigger pull, which is a bit gritty and creepy on some guns.

Installing the Apex parts is not a job for the guy who only has one hammer and rusty screwdriver and has never done a full pistol take down, though. It requires a good roll pin punch and a bench block designed to hold polymer pistol receivers is a big help, and a good sight pusher saves a lot of frustration. With those, it'll take around 45 minutes to an hour.
